Hey guys. Im 17 and just got my Stang about a month ago. Wanna do something to sound beefier but on a budget. I know everyones gonna say H pipe and Flowmasters but I would like to keep it the Y pipe and a single exit. Thinking of getting a single Flowmaster 40 or 44 and something like a 3.5 chrome tip. I think that would sound good. Open to any suggestions, though. Help me out! Thanks.

i have a 2007 manual v6 and i put the magnaflow dual exhaust on it from AmericanMuscle.com and it sound amazing ! i also think you would like the fact is that you keep the stock y-pipe on the car and the kit come with a reverse y-pipe to turn the single exit into dual. i love the look of the pipes out the back because they are resonators and therefore you dont see any ugly muffler from the back... just some nice and shinny 4 inch tips :bigthumbsup

What is your budget? I would just save up and go for the true dual exhaust rather than just getting a muffler. What are your long term plans with the mustang?

I your keeping the y-pipe you are only going to get a sound increase, no performance.....

If this what you want then it sounds like a good setup

Just changing the muffler will only give you a louder/better sound, as Dave suggested. But it seems this is all you want... :shigrin

So, I would recommend a muffler with only 2-chambers (Flowmaster 40s) or a reverse-flow design ("turbo mufflers", like Thrush turbo) so that you get the loudest sound without sounding "farty". If you really want something different, look into Flowmaster HP-2s and Super 10s...

As a side note, a true dual exhaust does not have to be all that expensive: I have a divorced dual exhaust with two Flowtech glasspacks that only cost me under $50! I just did all the labor myselft, cut the pipes after the cats (right before the bends), and clamped them on. :D It's probably not the best sound, but it's the most (street-legal) performance gain.

If you want to keep the current y pipe setup and make it louder on a budget then you should buy a glasspack. Very cheap as low as 20$ and usually very cheap to install. But thats only if your looking for a louder sounding mustang. Cherry bomb is a good brand.

If its what you want, its a good setup. More sound, and the chrome tip will add a custom touch. Simple but its enough.
I dont suggest a glasspack muffler though....

Man what yall guys talking about? Glasspacks are the best muffler out there even better then Flowmaster!!! SYKE. I know they dont sound good but if you wanna go loud instead of good tone you would get one. i used to have one but got an h pipe installed with cat back straight pipes and im tryin to get super 44's installed but gotta save up the $$$ first. But be honest not all glasspack setups are bad there are a few cars that sound decent on... and by few im mean VERY FEW!!!!
