Installed oil pump shaft through top!

Hey guys:

The other day I had the issue of not installing the oil pump shaft when putting the oil pump on. After about a week of thinking, I made up a long hard handle and then what I did was I welded a large nut onto the end of it, just so it would support the oil pump shaft clip, what the clip does is it prevents the shaft from comming out when lifting up on the distributor. Anyhow after all that I got some puddy, put it on the nut then placed the clip firmly ontop onto the puddy. Then I VERY CAFEFULLY lowered the clip just under the hole where the distributor shaft sits. I then got a long quarter inch extension and used eletrical tape to tape the shaft and extension together. I then lowered the shaft just so it would lightly sit ontop of the clip. You will need two people to do this next part but then I took a small hammer and every so lightly hit the tip of the extension while pulling up fimly on the rod holding the clip. After I got the clip onto the rod I then positioned it so it would go into the oil pump drive. Once that was in, I took the clip tool and I pulled the clip up to the top of the shaft where its supposed to be! After that I removed my clip tool from out of the hole and removed the extension from the shaft. DONE! It actually wasnt that hard, Just had to be very careful. The whole thing with my five liter was it was supposed to be done for my 16th birthday which was on sunday. Unfortunatly when I went to do my timing I realized about the oil pump shaft. The installation of the shaft took at most 10 minutes, saving yourself about 5 hours worth of work which would require removing the engine.

Anyhow! Im thinking about producing some for those who are interested! :)

Well you need to go to Vegas and do some gambling then. If you were to produce other tools like that, I'm sure others would be interested. Maybe even pictures.

Way to go to invent a way to get it solved. :bigthumbsup
