ok well i have a newMSD distributor part# 8456. well 2 questions. 1)-my original was stolen and i dont know how it was positioned, would putting the new one in without the rotor being positioned the same mess up or prevent my car from working? 2)- also, the new distributor has a little marking dot which i thought was to have it rotated to the lock down position but, wen its lined up, the solid mounted wire connector is on the left of the distributor and my harness wont reach to connect. do i need an other than stock harness or is the distributor not setting in its mount correct?

You need to set your crank pully to TDC (top dead center) and then install your dist. Check out this link, it give you detailed info on how to properly install your dist.
