I'm installing a set of Phantom Autometer gauges into the bezel of my 67. Using 2 5/8 for the oil, fuel and temp - no problem (well, now) and I got those in there looking good. The speedometer and tachometer are 5" and I was doing good up to the point of screwing them in.
The glass is the same size as the gauge, so I'm worried that if I drill through, I'll break the glass. Also when I screw them in, the gauge bends case bends a bit due to the size being just barely too big. Wouldn't this crack the glass even if I got it screwed in?

Hoping somebody solved this issue or has an idea how I can get it taken care of. All suggestions appreciated. Thanks everyone!

I successfully put Autometer UltraLite guages in my 67 Convertible. I did not have to drill through the glass at all to get them installed. I did however have to do some creative cutting to the backside of my cluster to all a better fit without the bending you are describing. My car is currently getting a little work done on it so I can't go out to look for sure what I did to get them installed, it's been about a year and a half so I just don't remember the details. I'll have mine back next week and will try and get back with you if you haven't already figured it out. Good Luck!!

Thanks guys jgarland, but I think my friend and I figured out the best way to get it done. Honestly, its the most basic thing possible... super glue. Just a few dots to hold it in place that I can remove if the time calls for it.

Yes I'll make sure it holds really well before installing the gauges back into the car.

Are you guys putting them behind the original plastic lens? I didn't see need to have 2 sets of lens' since the gauge has its own. I put mine through the front. And got rid of the original lens all together. I think they look good! Here's a pic!

i have that gauge support.it works great but you might need a dremel to get it perfect. and you do need to remove some plastic inside the cluster.

I would have gone through the front but I wanted to keep the stock chrome rings on the outside of the original bezel. Not using the plastic, using the glass the new ones came with. Just got them all setup, now I need to figure out the wiring.
I have a painless wiring kit for the car, not sure how everything will hook up - any insight anybody?

Rudder it came from Ebay. And I would not recommend it. It looks great but is a flimsy POS. china made crapola. I will probably be changing it. Just got to find something else I like. This time I will go with a reputable steering wheel maker like Grant or others that I know make quality parts. Little mule post up some pics of your gauges I would like to see them as well as others probably would also.
