Installing Steeda underdrive pulleys on 2008 Mustang GT

Hey. I just bought a 2008 Bullitt. I love what the car offers, but think I am going to install Steeda underdrive pulleys for some extra umph. I got a price of $186.00 to have a shop install them. Is this worth the cost, or should I install them myself? If I do put them on, how involved is this project? Will I be wishing I paid to have this done when I am half way through the install? I am pretty good with engine work, but I don't do it everyday.

It's not hard... Just need either a breaker bar or impact wrench to remove the crank bolt and rent a 3-jaw pulley puller to remove the harmonic balancer.
Do I need anything special to re-install the belt? Can I remove the harmonic balancer without the puller? I guess the puller would make the job go smoother......

You really need the puller. Autozone will loan you one.
Thanks! I never thought about AutoZone. Now all I need to do is raise the money!!

Cool! Let me know.

I am looking at the Steeda pulleys. I have heard they are the best. Do you have any other suggestions?

They're very good, plus they recently dropped the price. I run Motoblue pulleys.

I have heard of these. You must like them.

They've been perfect for me. Unfortunately you can only find them at the much dreaded RPM Outlet

I have not heard of RPM Outlet. They suck, huh?
It would be wise to also pick up a harmonic balancer installer while getting the 3 jaw puller at Autozone. That way, you won't stress the crankshaft threads while seating the new pulley. Autozone requires a deposit equal to the replacement cost of the tools, which you will get back once you return them. You can use plastic for the deposit if money is tight.:)

I, personally, have not had any issues but plenty of others have.

Neither have I, I got the Option D drag pac and everything came as purchased pretty quickly. Every experience is different with each company. It's the risk you take. I run the motoblues as well, and they work well.

Install was not too bad, go for it and do it yourself.
You're going to need a different size belt too: I used a Dayco Polyclog (part no. 5060990) but there are others out there (e.g., Gates).
If you get the Steeda pulleys, you can use the stock length belt unless they have changed something I'm not aware of.
I'm not aware of any UDP set that requires a new belt. The smaller crank is compensated by the larger water pump. Now if you run an electric water pump it will require a shorter belt..
My bad- I have the Meziere, which does require a different belt.

By the way just a quick heads up: if, for whatever reason, you want to change out a Steeda underpulley on the crank you apparently have to use a harmonic balancer puller as opposed to a 3-jaw (per Steeda when I called this morning)
