Hey,

I currently have a 2006 v6 Stang, but I have really wanted a GT for a while, but my main hesitation has been how much insurance would go up. The car is in my dad's name for the insurance, and would probably stay that way with a GT until I move out.

I am looking into mostly 2005 or 2006 GT's because it is the most affordable and I like that body style the most. Perhaps an 07 would be in the mix too though. It would be with Country Insurance (if that matters), and he is about 55, with a perfect credit and driving history.

I have tried checking myself, but can't seem to get accurate rates. How much do you guys think insurance would be for a Mustang of that year with his age/credit/driving history etc?

Thanks! :)

Your best bet is to have your dad get some quotes, nobody is going to give quotes to someone who is not the person getting the insurance. Plus they have to check things like driving record, and previous accidents.

If they don't know you're driving the car the insurance may only go up a few dollars, but if you're the primary driver, the rates will probably double.

Wow how are some of you paying so little for your GTs? My 2006 v6 is under my dad's name, and he has like perfect credit/driving record etc and he is paying about $100 for that. o_O
Most insurance companies are just out to rip you off. Just go to a different company and tell them what you're paying and see if they can go any lower. That's what I did. I was paying about $110 through State Farm, then I switched to Safeco and it went down to $77. Same coverage and everything as well.

Unfortunately we can't really switch to another. Because it is under my dad's name, and they have all their cars/properties insured through the same company. I will have him check though to see what it actually is. If it is only like $150 or so a month, then that is no problem.

If it gets up to like $300 a month, then that is a problem.

My wife quizzed our insurance company insurance (State Farm) why premiums are less for my Mustang GT than her Escape. They said because I'm old. I'm past 50, she's not there yet.

How old are you? I'm sure it will be over 150. I live in the country where rates are usually lower and I'm 23 with a 100% clean record and pay 175 a month which is a lot to me

I used to drive a 2000 Chevy Malibu. I had progressive insurance at the time.

Insurance Before Mustang:
Cars Covered: 2000 Chevy Malibu & 2002 Hyundai Elantra GT
Coverage: "Full coverage"
Deductable: $500
Montly Payment: $75

Insurance with Mustang GT:
Cars Covered: 2008 Mustang GT & 2002 Hyundai Elantra GT
Coverage: "Full coverage"
Deductable: $500
Montly Payment: $95

My insurance only went up by ~$20 a month when I switched from a 12 year old Chevy Malibu to a 4 year old Mustang GT. Full coverage & 500 deductible in both cases. Only thing that changed was my car.

At the time, I was 24 years old with no accidents and no tickets. My wife was 25, no accidents & no tickets.

I've since switched to state farm and my rates went down by about $5 a month.

I pay $55 a month for full coverage on my mustang gt and for my truck and other car. My GT cost me $198 a every 6 months for full coverage. It has a-lot to do with your age, driving record, homeowner, married, credit, ect ect. I pay $298 every 6 months for 3 vehicles.

I'm 20 years old, so I would think it would be a lot for me, but the car would be under my dad's name, and he is like 55 with perfect driving record and credit. So I should hope it shouldn't be that high.

@fordlover:
Wow that is pretty damn cheap! :) I did a free quote thing from the insurance company we use (Country Insurance) and it said that it would be like $65 a month for a GT. But my dad says sense they have like everything bundled together, that our actual price would be different than any quote I get.
So now I am just waiting on him to get a price Haha

yeah. When you bundle, you typically get discsounts. If it is under your dad's name, and you just drive it, it probably won't be that high. If you are the "primary driver" for the vehicle though, even if it is on his plan, you may still end up paying more. The closer you get to 25, the lower the rates get. There isn't much driving history when you are under 25. At least that is what the insurance companies think

I am 41 and pay about $70 a month for full coverage. That's with upgraded coverage (100/300/100) and considering that I totalled my last GT when I hit cow (don't ask LOL) and they covered it. It's mostly about age but location can affect it too. I think insurance companies figure a 20 yr old is going to be driving balls to the wall everywhere and being reckless where as more "mature" drivers are generally doing just that, "driving" their cars.

Oh now the Bad:gringreen If your dad does insure you through him, God Bless him! I for one wouldn't do it. I have way too much to lose to get sured for if god forbid someone under my insurance gets in a wreck and seriously hurts someone. As much as I love my Daughter I made her get her own insurance and she doesn't even have a GT. She bought a new 2012 chevy cruise and pays for it and her insurance. She's learning a life lesson about Responsibility and No she doesn't hate me for it she understands.
Im sure your gonna race around and speed with your GT, all Kids do it, I know I did when I was your age. But if you do and get caught, 1 speeding ticket will send your dads insurance rates right through the roof.
My motto is (If you want to Play, you have to Pay)
Sure you say you wont speed or race around or drive your GT recklessly, mabey you wont but it's highly unlikely, that's why Insurance companies give young drivers such high rates because there a Risk and add a GT to it and now your a Big risk.
And if you say you wont do any of this then why do you need a GT? what's wrong with your V6? I know you want the POWER of a GT:bounce2: so you answered my questions, good luck!
I know if I was young and had a GT and was on my parents insurance I'd be raising hell on the road:gringreen

LOL you hit a cow?! :heha: That take some doing... Yeah I'm glad he is willing to have my car under his name, otherwise it would be ridiculous. He currently has me as driving a like 1987 20 foot box truck.. LOL

Yeah I am so grateful he does that. I totally understand fordlover, if my dad made me pay my own insurance, I probably wouldn't be happy, but I would definitely wouldn't hate him or be mad. But sense he offered, I am not gonna decline that. :D

I won't lie, I speed pretty much everywhere I go with my v6.. haha
But I am careful about it. I have never had a ticket sense I got it, which was almost 4 years ago, and never had an accident, thank god! I admit too, I want the GT for the power, but also the sound and ability to upgrade it so much. :gringreen
Plus I feel a little ashamed when everyone who sees the car for the first time is like "awesome! So it's a v8?" And I have to tell them it is only a v6 (no offensive to anyone who has a v6, I still love mine!).

If I can ever get my dad to check on the rates, then I can finally start shopping! Woohoo

I understand Completely! I loved my V6 and as much as I loved here I was sick of telling everyone it was a 6, they then looked at it like it had Herpes. So I bought my 02 GT Premium. I love the sound of the V8 and the GT Badges get more Respect. Also your Dad is a hell of a Man, make sure you tell him that and mean it. And as much as you like speed and so do I, be Careful!
