i have a 97 gt and my intake manifold ended up cracking at a spot where it is sealed and wouldnt hold any coolent for very long. When I brought it in to Ford to get it fixed i printed out what I found about the recall on the intake manifold and showed them and they told me that it was not a recall, just a proposal for a recall so it wouldnt be done for free. It was something that was covered on the warrenty though, so they still fixed it but I had to pay the deductable. This was about 3 and a half years ago and i haven't had any problems with that since. I suppose you can search for recalls for your year and make of car on either google or yahoo or something and see what other recalls there might be too. I hope this helps.
There was in fact a silent recall if I remember correctly. I think the time limit of 8 years may have run out by this time though. There are several people that had this work done by ford for free though. If you can't convince them to repair it, maybe a Bullit intake swap would be a good way to go.
I had the same problem and I had mine serviced under the 30 warranty when u get a used car from the dealer, but actually u can go to the dealer buy just the water crossover part from a 98 gt and they should be able to give u just that part because they do come apart.
You can either swap the intake for the 99-04 PI intake or you can buy a 96-98 intake from NAPA. The NAPA intake comes with an aluminum coolant crossover rather than the stock intakes plastic one.

I got a letter from a group that was sueing for over this and from what i hear they won I am pretty sure u can get it fixed for free, but id rather just get a PI intake and put it on and gain some horses!
November 9th is when the recall supposably goes into effect.
