Interesting Info about 2012 Differentials

I have been searching tirelessly for a GT Coupe with 3.73 gears with no luck. Decided I wanted the car now while the weather is still good.
Found out that Ford has informed its dealers that the only way to get a Manual Transmission and 3.55/3.73 gears is if a customer orders the car. Dealer ordered cars will only get 3.31 Diff.
Well I found an Ingot Silver/Black Coupe that is in transit and bought it. I guess I'll settle for 3,31's for now
If you search dealer stock and you find a GT with a 3.73 diff, it means it is going to Rousch for mods.
Just thought everyone would like to know this

When I searched for my 11 there were plenty of 3.73 Mustangs available but all were premiums. I gave up and got a base gt and regeared it.
I probably will too. This new Ford rule is for the 2012's and I think is EPA related for the CAFE fuel ratings, more help from our gov't!
Could you share the gears you bought and how the install went? Did it present any unseen problems with the car?
Thanks
i have a 2012 GT/CS and it has 3.55 gears, it was dealer ordered i got it back in march, but i think it might be one of the differences between the canadian and american markets...not sure, guess i was just lucky
My dealer said they just got the message recently, and the 5.0 has been in short supply for the Mustang since the F-150's have been in high demand and 5.0's have been going to them. Sounds like the supply has caught up now.
I'll bet the Canadian rules are different since you aren't dealing with our overbearing Feds.
They had my car with 3.73 gears at the dealer when I was looking for my 5.0, and it was a base model car. I'm sure you can get it order through the dealer with 3.73 gears, or find the setup your looking for at another dealer ship.

All Canadian GT coupes come stock with 3.55s, can't get the 3.31s if you wanted them.
I had to order my car to get a base 5.0 with 3.73s and Brembo, there weren't any in ANY color in the surrounding areas, much less in a color I wanted. But it will be worth the wait :kooky:
Bought my 2012 at a local dealer in July, it's a premium with 3.73's.

It IS worth the wait. I think it is hard to find a base with 3.73s because its the best bang for the buck and are being snatched up for $27k instead of the premiums with fluff for $31k+.

found the exact car i was planning to order about a year ago. base mustang, performance white, brembos, 3.73s. it was actually in transit to the dealer. signed the papers and the car came about a week later.

i think i got the best of both worlds, the car just the way i wanted it without the extremely long wait times of a custom order and i knew it would have no test drive miles on it (always a fear of buying a car off the lot)
My dealer has plenty of premiums with 3.73 :nono:
another member just flew to houston and picked up a 12 with 3.73 and brembo dealer stock 6M. :nono:
I bought my BASE GT with Brembos and 3.73s right off the lot. Sounds to me like the dealer is giving you a load of b.s. simply because he doesn't have one.
It took a few weeks to find one. The 3.55 work great with the rpm range these engines have.

Could be, although he said this is a fairly new policy by Ford. I searched Dealers from Pa/Oh/Wv and found only one car but didn't want a Black/Black car and it was $38,000 and I was looking for a base model with 3.55 or 3.73 gears. Trying to keep the price down with 2 kids in college. Thanks for all the responses!
That sucks. When looking for my 2011, base GT's with 3:73's were plentiful. I wanted nothing less than this gear.
