86 Mustang 3.8 auto on the floor, 60K miles, tranny fluid getting out but no puddle under the car. I found tranny fluid in my vacuum lines. Car smokes when leaving stop, not on acceleration.

Am I burning the fluid? How to fix?
Thanks!

Check on the back side of the transmission housing, right above the top of the oil pan. You should find a vacuum operated modulator valve. The inner diaphragm might be perforated and that is why you are burning trans. oil. Remove the vacuum line and you should see oil pouring out of it. Replace the valve and it should take care of your problem.

Hope this helps.
