I'm new to the AllFordMustangs forum and want to introduce myself. My name is David Hoeft, I live in Yuma, Arizona, and I am the proud owner of a 1966 Mustang fastback. This Mustang has a very strange history in that the numbers indicate it came with a 289, 4-speed. But when I purchased the car in 2000 from a teenager, it had a 6-cylinder and automatic transmission (clutche pedal was wired up against the firewall), along with a 6-cylinder drivetrain, if that makes sense. I'm baffled as to why someone would go through the trouble of making such a transition. Anyway, I have since set out to convert the rear end and suspension to re-accomodate a V8; have converted the brake system to discs all the way around; and have installed a rebuilt, beefed-up 302 and 5-speed transmission. It's been a major project to say the least, with so many setbacks I've lost count. Also, although the body is very straight and healthy, the teenager who formerly owned the car pretty much thrashed the interior and the maintenance/upkeep was sorely lacking. But, now, I'm at the point where it's a couple of hours away from being driveable. Needless to say, I'm pretty pumped!
