I am looking for new rims for my 2007 and have been hearing a lot of different things about rim sizes. Im pretty sure i only want to go as big as an 18 in rim but if i go to a 20 would that do anything to performance and handling. No one i know will give me a straight response haha.

I couldnt agree more with this. What you should try and do is keep the stock tire circumfrence. this can be done by bigger rim and smaller sidewall tire. that way you dont mess with the gearing ratio

So, again, lets reexamine the issue one more time.... what size tire do those who professionally rely on them use to win races...?

You know what? I should be fair. Low profile tires do matter for those struggling for every last horsey. As well as those with sub-par suspensions.... I shouldnt have come across so judgementaly. My bad.

18" smooth ride, looks good, not as expensive for tires, 20" hard ride , expensive for tires, looks to big IMO. But its your car and you do what you think is best :yup:

I dont mind my 20" rims with low profiles the suspension on the 2007 at least for me keeps the ride very smooth. Maybe its just due to convertible dont really know heh. Feels the same as when i had it stock though

The problem with 20 or 19 in rims is that the tire profiles are so narrow that they give such a harsh ride. I went with 18's and am happy. I have 18x9 1/2 GT500 rims with 255/45-18 Hankook V12 tires. I wouldn't want anything more rigid that that, but to each their own.

I had 18" stock wheels and tires and went to 20's with a lower profile tire to keep the same overall diameter as stock and I don't notice a harsher ride but maybe if you drive on dirt roads you would notice. My 20's with tires each weigh 1.5lbs. more than my stock wheels weighed so I notice no loss in power. Good luck with your choice.

ahh, thats why i stayed with 17", bigger sidewalls, better ride, better looks imo than any rubberband tire. i would have stayed 16" if they didnt interfere with the upgrade brakes and if wider rims were available and wider tires but they are not. or even 15" i would like even better but thats not a option at all.

bottom line there is you want to stay the same over all height is the stockers are. so 27" is what you want. nothing looks worse then a wheel/tire setup thats 2" shorter than stock. some guys do that on purpose just for the track to pick up some gear ratio, but it looks really stupid. i went as far as to go taller than stock on my rear to fill the wheelwell nice. heres a pic of a shelby at the track that was using really short tire, parked next to mine. :yup:

but dont mind me, i`m oldschool. i hate the big wheels/little tire look, the bigger they are, the more i dislike them so for me in tires anyway, bigger is better, but not wheels :nogrinner ( sorry, just had to throw my opinion into the fray)

Hot Damn! On the right there, that looks pretty bad assed. The low-profile stuff is for posers who dont really know the score. For performance? Not a chance in hell. Not even a little one. Were it the actual case, that they offered even one little advantage over anything approximating normal, why dont those whose careers, sponsorships, winning, losing, lives for that matter... use them?

Does a single one of them anywhere on earth use them? Name me one.... From rally car racers, to formula one racers, to Nascar racers, to the complete and total opposite--> Dragster racers use them? Does a single one of them use them?

Just name me "ONE"!

Personally I don't like 20s rims or anything with low profile tires. I think 18s are perfect. They look nice, they are not to over the top, and with the right tire they have decent ride quality on the bad Arizona roads.

Wow, I read the responses on this. First everything has it "pro's and con's". These pictures are of my car with and without the shaker scoop. My rear wheels are 20X10". I have great handling, WAY better than my stock rims and tires. I would have went with the 18", but I wanted these. I have also upgraded the struts and shocks... WOW, taking turns are a lot more fun now. I plan on upgrading the sway bars soon.

I honestly think you have to ask, what you using your car for? If its going to be a dragster, then you build for that. If its going to be a street/racer... then you build it for that. Then 18" may be better for you.

But if you are like most people, they just drive their cars to work. Some may race on the streets, etc. But if you are not going to do that, then just buy what you like. But 20" rims are not a "death trap". FOr me, it was the best investment I made.

I have to agree with firedawg314. If i wanted to race everything that has wheels I would probably build it as such. Some people just like cosmetic changes to the car and to focus on its looks as a daily driver. I haven't noticed any real difference since i changed my rim size.

Since when were 20" rims stock?? I'm pretty sure the S197 has 16's stock.. kind of a cheap looking snowflake type of thing. I have the pony package with 17's. I have no complaints, of course I don't have the money to throw around and spend however much on 20's and the tires for them. Some college kids just can't do that lol. I've seen anything from probably a 15" rim to a 20" rim at the drags. It all depends on what you want. Remember that rubber doesn't weigh as much as metal. Well, most metals anyway. In my opinion, if it goes with the car, its fine. But 20's on a completely stock V6 with no appearence parts would look ridiculous. I'm not a fan of the huge fan blades.

thanks guys. i would never put 20 in on my car dont like the super thin tire look. I am gonna go with some 18 in rims as soon as i can find the right ones. Thanks for the input guys. mostly i was just wondering the right answer because no one else would tell me the right answer.

I'm running 18" rims with Pirelli Pzero's.
And compared to my stock 16" and Bridgestone there isn't one.

The car improved in handling alone doing that but the same height has been kept. My tire size is P235/50/18 which is the same height as the stock except the sidewalls are shorter. And since they are Pirellis Im getting far less road noise than the crappy stock tire.

To each his own but my situaition improved but I kept the stock height in the end. The car handles far better and is far more comfortable and far less noisier.

been runnig 20s for the last year, 245/40/zr20s front and 315/35/zr20s rear..continental dws.

I've yet to see any issues considering handling or harsh riding. I keep my tires inflated to 36psi.
