Well, since My power train warranty runs out on my 2011 in 6 months and 10k miles i decided to address some power train issues.... I have been putting things off and they have been getting slowly worse.. The engine has been making a knocking sound, a very dull one but it is getting worse on the right side. I have noticed the oil pressure is reading on the gauge a bit higher than usual as well.. You can feel it in the shifter and gets more rapid with engine rpm. IT runs good and no SES lights but i know it isn't right. Second, the transmission (mt82) has gotten to where it is notchy and won't go into reverse about 80% of the time. I did replace the shifter and bracket with a FORD RACING unit sometime ago and it helped a bit but the problems persist. Last, the pinion seal looks like it is leaking... Anyway, should i have taken the car as problems arose or is Ford gonna freak? I know these are all COMMON complaints on these cars from what i read and every situation is probably unique.. How should i address this? I hope they don't tell me to get lost.. LOL

Definitely take it in to Ford. In the future, go to the dealership as problems appear and don't wait until they become intolerable.

Just go and get it all documented. Make sure that if they don't correct the complaints your original service request shows what you brought the car in for. This way they can't say it's a new problem 1000 miles after the warranty expires since you will have original documentation showing mileage and dates for the original complaint.

The ages old debate on the definition of what is a failure. Well, in my opinion, once something is not behaving as originally designed, e.g. noises, etc., then something has indeed "broke". :)

I would agree with others and say that you should have brought the car to the dealer as problems occurred. An additional reason that others haven't brought up is that if something does 'break' that's been noisy for some time, there's a small chance that the dealer *could* say they won't cover the whole cost because continuing to drive the car caused the breakage. I have never heard of that happening with a car warranty (after almost 40 years in the car repair/parts business), but who knows...

Back when I worked for Big O Tires, their tire warranty replaced any tire for free as long as it had legal tread and was damaged by a road hazard. We had many people come in with (repairable) flats that had been driven on for too long, destroying the sidewalls. The warranty would not replace that, as they ruined the tire by continuing to drive on a flat.

Take your car in and at least get some sort of documentation, as others suggested.

I have and I work for truck dealership.

One was check engine light that had been active over 300 hrs. Truck was in derate whole time but kept driving it in tell it wouldn't go anymore. Put holes in valve cover from parts jumping around, ruined cam, broke off tops of injectors, messed up cyl head and ruined the cam. Beside oil all over under side of the hood, engine and underside of the truck so engine was very low on oil

Other was rear had a noise then it blow pinion bearings then gear blew hole in the case. Kept driving it in stead of having it towed which they would have cover it. The case iron turned white and whole thing was so hot after we dropped it out was still hot 2 hrs later. Denied because of no oil in it.

This is worst I've seen......but there have been other things to with engines and trans. Most people thinking is it's cover because it's under warranty so keep going because it still drives. How many cars do you see with check engine light on there's a lot of them. New vehicles computer now derates or limp mode now for smallest thing biggest reason to protect vehicle from stupid owner or driver facepalm2.gif
