I FUDGED UP GUYS! "cue hangover scene".

Ok so yesterday i was coming back home and i went on the highway and was "Shifting" my Automatic. I was in 1 and went 2 5k rpm and went straight into D by accident! there was a short weird sound (sounded kinda nasty) and i went about my bizz. Now 2day i went to school at 8am, started up and left no problems. Now at 12pm i started my car up to leave and it idled at 1200rpm...weird. ALWAYS idles at 800 or so. I sat there watching it and it slowly went down. Then i very lightly pressed the gas (in P) and it went to 2k and got stuck at 1200 then slowly went down. This doesn't seem normal.

IS THIS NORMAL?! i'm scared :sadcry

i dont know how your car compares to my 90 5.0 HO but i had that same problem accept i didnt do anything to the tranny. I made the mistake of reving the engine to around 4500 and snapped the throttle closed and it stuck at 1500 RPM and did not come down. so i thought i broke something but it turned out that the IAC was stuck all the way open. Cleaned it and it will idle down slowly now. so im assumeing that is the problem. Try it. And also there are other smarter people than me that will chime in.
shifting from 1 to d shouldnt have broken anything.. it should have just shifted normally to the appropriate gear.. idk.. did you, like he said, go from that 5k rpm, WOT to foot off the pedal when the weird sound came about?

No i had the pedal 2 the floor and kept it there the whole time and how would i go about cleaning my IAC?
it unscrews with 2 bolts so you unclip the sensor unscrew the 2 bolts and use carb cleaner to get any carbon deposits out to prevent it from sticking.. if its even dirty..

Thanks! i saw that before but it confused me cause another site confused me lol
Wow, I definitely have the same problem with the idle shooting up as soon as I start the engine and it comes down to around 1200 rpm or so and when I barely give it gas it shoots up, but after a while it calms down.
Post up the results! Hopefully that fixes the problem RidinHigh!!

Ok, i just got done...Bottom bolt was a little SOB oh man it took me forever to get it off. You may not have that problem tho if you have reach around type tools lol....It worked perfect. I used Throttle body cleaner and sprayed it in a little shook it out like 3 times and started the car up reved it a couple times and let it sit for 5 mins or so and its fine now. I used the guide that Markstang posted on here
Perfect!! Well I i'll go buy the throttle body cleaner tomorrow then! Thanks alot, and I'll post up my results! Hopefully everything will go well!

Goodluck! hope it works
So I finally cleaned out my IAC today with intake cleaner! The IAC was very dirty, but unfortunatley I could not reach behind the spring to thoroughly clean it! Does anyone with IAC experience know how to reach back there? I took it easy around the spring because I did not want to damage it! I did put it back in and it still idles at around 1400 RPM when it starts up from a cold start for about a minute then it slowly starts to calm down to 900 before it begins to idle normally.

Same for me except when i start up cold every once in a while it'll jump to like 1100 then slowly go back down. It's whatever cause it doesn't happen every time for me. Sorry to hear your still having troubles though. If anyone has a permanent solution please post it!
