I want to drive it around since the weather is getting warm, I recently did a HCI swap and I need it tuned because once warm it wants to stall out. Am I hurting it by driving without the tune?

I still have the stock tune on my car after
a HCI install and the car runs fine. I am sure
that a custom tune or one of those bama tunes
might unleash more power, but not sure how much
more. Your stalling problem might not be related
the stock tune. It could be something else.

I agree, the stalling may not be tune related. Had my car tuned any Alternative Auto after my HCI swap, it's in the north side of Detroit.

Edelbrock Performer 1.90 heads, tfs 1 cam and a Typhoon intake. I heard that the 94 95's hate any change and theres alot of power left on the table until you tune it. I just wanted to make sure I was safe to drive it around without the tune.

I would think there might be something else lingering. Make sure it is not a vacuum leak.
The car should run fine and that cam is pretty mild.

I know this is an old thread, but I put in 24 pound injectors recently. It runs really smooth, but every now and then when I stop and go, it will hesitate. Almost like it died, then came back in the blink of an eye. Im assuming this is because it is running pig rich. Anyway I need to get it to a tuner and my truck is broken down so I cant trailer it there. Is it okay to drive you think?

Kyle, I'm assuming that you also installed a matching MAF calibrated to go along with the injectors?? What other mods do you have to warrant going to 24lb injectors? I think it will be just fine to drive around like that until you get a tune.

I drove mine around on the stock ECU for a while after doing a HCI and 24lb injector upgrade. It ran ok, but had minor idle surging and stalling issues. I tried the base idle reset, making sure vacuum was good, fuel pressure, TPS adjustments, but overall, the tune took care of those issues.

On a side note, when I recently went to smog it, it failed in the O2 department. I had to remove the chip/tune, reset the ECU, drive it around for an hour for it to learn, then it smogged just fine. (I have all CARB legal parts with numbers. California is a pain!!!). It ran pretty decent but still had a little surging on idle. Then I installed the SCT back in the ECU. Seems the tuner had disabled the O2 sensors and dialed in the A/F on the chip. It runs a bit rich on idle but the idle is rock solid.

It has stock MAF and TB. I was told that if you are getting a tune then your stock maf will be fine, because he's going to tune the fuel ratio into the ecu. If I wasnt getting a tune, they said to put on a bigger maf because it fools the ecu by letting more air in. Its about a 45 minute drive almost all cruising. If I have stock supporting parts, will I be okay to drive it this far.

Yeah, I'm not sure if it'll hurt anything. I've never heard of anyone with 24lb injectors using a MAF unit calibrated for 19lb injectors. I would imagine you would be getting way too much fuel....like you said, running extremely rich. Fouled plugs maybe? Backfiring? Not sure. Perhaps the better than "shade-tree mechanics like me" can chime in regarding this.

As long as you aren't getting the previously mentioned issues, it shouldn't hurt the engine to drive it around like that for a little while. It won't be optimal, your gas mileage will suffer in comparison to what it could be, but you're probably fine dude. Yes, the tuner can tune the stock MAF for larger injectors.
