Is the eletronics package worth it?

From what i gather the sync system gives audio turn by turn directions even without the electronics package... is that true? the only thing the eletronics package gives you is a hard drive to store things... the visible Display to see maps... and an HD radio?
Is the HD radio even good compared to regular? I have no experience with them

Yes you still get turn by turn w/o the electronics package.

With the package you also get navigation....not just turn by turn via audio. Sirius Travel Link (or whatever its called). Plus it can sync with your phone via bluetooth and pretty much control it. Even to the point of text messages.

If you like gadgets, it is the package for you. If you aren't sold on it, you may want to put that money elsewhere (glass roof, gears, brembos).
The syncing with the phone is only with the electronics package?

I think it can be done without the package but with some limitations compared to having the package. I could be wrong though.
No, all Mustangs with Sync have the full blu tooth sync ability, including audio text messaging with compatible phones.

I have the standard Premium without electronics package and all of these features (voice control of your iPod, full phone sync and voice control, etc.) work just fine.

With the electronics package you get the trick nav screen (it is pretty darn awesome) that gives you the map readout plus some other graphical readouts, points of interest, etc.

There are no SYNC functions, as far as I can find, that are unique to the electronics package. The elec. package includes some additional non-SYNC features.

Electronics package is pretty slick. Though I'm extremely pleased with the standard SYNC package. In fact...I just ordered a new phone to actually take advantage of the text-to-voice feature.

Have a great day!
If I ordered I was going to get it, to me it would have been worth it for the Separate heat and air controls for the wife

That is correct. The only caveat to that is the text feature is not supported by all carriers, Verizon being one of them. Otherwise the Nav syst is definitely a cool feature, just comes with a hefty price. If you could afford it, go for it. My preference went to the Brembo & glassroof instead. Just couldn't justify the cost when you could by a portable nav unit for $200. Which essentially is the only extra your getting.:)

+1 The Sync system by itself is pretty awesome and does everything I want it to. If you feel the need for a map, get a portable nav.
And since the center of our dash has a perfectly flat spot for a friction mounted Garmin, and a power point just below the lip of the dash between the HVAC vents, I'd say the good people on the Mustang design team are kindly catering to our GPS (and radar detector...hehehe) needs. :bigthumbsup

Have a great day everyone.

You are soo right!! Here, it can get quite hot (115 the other day, only 113 today!), and people, especially men and women, need different temperatures to be comfy. When my wife is comfy, I'm usually not. The opposite is also true, of course.
Let me tell you, I'm so sorry I didn't order the Electronics Package. Those separate temp controls would've made my GT perfect.

I've had the duel climate control on my "family car" since 2007, also has cooled seats, never really use either one. One of those features that sound better on paper,IMHO.
Does a bit more than what has been said. The sync function can autoplay your current play list from your iphone when you crank the car without you even taking the phone out of your pocket.

The screen is customizable and will do a slide show of your fav pics and someone already mentioned the 10 g hard drive.

When driving in weather..you can get Radar overlay on the map showing your position in the storm..while listening to the weather on xm and getting automatic traffic and re-routing data on the GPS.

You can watch your fav DVD sit com while eating in the parking lot of a fast food place or wating to pick someone up.

You can pull up say...the local outback steak house on the POI..push one more button and call to place your order..while pusing one additional button has you own your way to it.

You can pull up the cheapest gas and sort by regular diesel or premium..then you can sort it by only seeing the ones that are along the already plotted route (so you dont go out of your way)..and then sort by the cheapest and you know right where to stop on your trip.

You can do pretty much the same thing for hotels as well.

You can pull up local sporting events..and even get tickets.

Same thing for movies...execept you don't just find the theathers..you can get listing of whats playing and when it starts...press one more button..and your course is plotted in to the movies.

You can set up your own customized avoidance grids in the city by clicking the screen and using the "pinch and expand mode" (like an iphone) to cordon off the gheto areas and then save them into your route avoidances. You can actually read the traffic, closures and delay reports on your trip before you even start..and set it to auto-reroute or you can go in and customize the turn by turn list at will.

The temp of the car can be adjusted by clicking a button on the steering wheel and saying "temperature..72 degrees" and boom its done. Same for your music, play lists, artists albums genres or xm radio stations...even for your GPS destinations.

you can get 5 day weather for your home city, destination city..and even the ski forecasts for your destination.

There are about a million other things it can do i just cant think right now...lol

It also features auto 911 assist crash assistance calling. (aka.."on-star").
Allentown is right. There is so much a person can control using SYNC only available with the electronics pkg. My wife's 2011 V6 has SYNC but no electronics pkg. With hers a person must use SIRIUS services through SYNC for directions, etc. a little more time consuming than the NAV system but still nice. I would not have ordered a vehicle with the electronics pkg, but after having it I would not order without it. In fact I tried to get my wife a 2010 GT with the electronics pkg but the dealer could not get the pmt to where we wanted it. The 2011s actually had a better promotion rate-wise - go figure. The other day I used SYNC to speak our destination while I drove ..... nice. No more sitting there punching in a bunch of stuff while sitting idle somewhere, you can now be on the move and enter in your destination.
With the accesories the V6 I picked out is 33.3k ... thats with the electronics package.

Did anyone do the x-plan or something where they got a better price than MSRP? If I could do the x-plan then I could get the electronics package

I ran out of pin #s for "D" plan so my wife's vehicle was bought with an "X" plan.

We did the 'X' plan + $1250 in rebates X-plan took it from MSRP $37,700 to $35,207-$1250($750+$500)=$33,957 :winks
An Evo phone does most of the extra stuff, too. And I can upgrade to whatever the best Android phone is in a few months. You can get a mount for them. Some of the new tablets coming out might be good too. And you can use it when you're not in the car...
Dont hesitate at all...the electronics package is TOTALLY worth it. Its so nicely integrated into the car and its so smooth in all of its capabilities. I will NEVER buy a car without it again. I promise you will not regret it...this was a feature I debated over for almost a month before finally biting the bullet and decided to order my car with it.
I first saw the electronics pkg while test driving a new taurus sho. It took me all of about 10 minutes of playing with it to convince me to get it. Not just for the navigation which seemed colorful and legible (i also have a garmin nuvi760) but I also liked the design and layout of the other functions such as the satellite radio with its station icons/song info and touchscreen buttons labeled with the station #s. I am hoping the climate control system works as quickly and intuitively - I like big knobs to be able to change things fast but we'll see. I sacrificed the glass roof to get it, so fingers crossed LOL.
If you dont care about the dual climate control, HD radio, playing DVDs (when your parked...), then its $2.340 for a car NAV that may seem outdated in a year or two... I decided against it. I think its overpriced (not worth it to me at least) for what it does compared to the standard (in premium) Sync/Sirius/Shaker 500 combo bluetooth-connected to a smart phone or mobile computing device (in my case an iPhone 4 or an iPad).

I would like to have the additional USB port though... :)
