Just ordered a 2013 GT and I'm excited! - Looking for general tips

Hi all,

New here. I just ordered a 2013 Gotta Have It Green GT Premium last week. Got the order number on Friday. Still waiting for my VIN and build date, but needless to say I can't wait. Seeing as how this is going to be my daily driver, I opted out of the Track pack and the Brembo brakes. I didn't completely sell out though, still getting a proper 6MT.

This is going to be my first Mustang, first Ford, and first American car, so I'm looking for basic owners tips. What kind of stuff should I look for? What should I keep in mind while driving. Thinks like that.

Thanks,

Mike.

Drives best when the peddle is to the metal my friend! :kooky:
You live in Michigan and this is your first American car?!

So....how long have you been a member of Al Qaeda? :gringreen
Look for things to come at you quickly from the front. I'm thinking motor mounts, shifter and bracket for mine. Then just more gas money for now.
Not trying to spoil your fun but the reality is that you better hope that you are one of the lucky few that will have a good MT82 tranny and quiet rear. Other than that, you my friend just purchased one of the best V8 motor that comes in a mustang. Congratulations!:D take care of her.

Navy Seals are of the few. There are many who enjoy their MT-82 transmissions.

I've lived in Michigan for a whole month, and already I'm being accused of being a terrorist :heha:
I just moved here from Boston, MA to work for the Blue Oval.

What do you mean "good tranny". Are there issues with some and not others?
You got the right color. I have a 2013 GT GTHIG and it turns heads every time :) The track pack is pretty got to have it given the price for what you get and the Recaro seats are pretty awsome, really hugs you...
Congratulations! My recommendation: get custom wheels. Cool wheels make a huge difference in my opinion.

Blue skies & Green lights!

Congrats on escaping Taxachusetts...aka Massachusux.
No flames, please, I lived in Orleans, MA.

I'm guessing that you haven't experienced the kind of HP-Torque that you are going to have. Traction will be an issue when you hammer it from a stop. 1st gear is very short. Wheel hop could be an issue. If you plan on driving it all winter you need to invest in snow tires.

These kind of forums make it appear that there are more problems than there actually is. Only a small percentage of '13's still have MT82 issues. No tranny is perfect.

Don't lug the engine, and if you have a 3.73 rear end, try starting from 2nd gear instead of 1st. You'll like it.

Mine is fine. As mentioned before, the forums magnify the issues because the internet's so easy to access and present complaints. Nothing is perfect. The tranny has its quirks, just like all others from the past.

Drive it for a while. Enjoy it. Don't mess with it too much. My 2003 that I owned for seven years had interesting quirks. Not much different than the complaints that some have here. It started every day, and was one of the most dependable cars that I have owned. It was a bear to get into second gear when cold as well as reverse, and it wasn't a MT82.

Don't let the talk scare you. The same complaints are found on the Camaro and Challenger forums. The best thing to do for a MT 82 is to replace the shifter bushing and bracket. Drive it for a while and assess. There isn't a car brand on the planet that doesn't have transmission fallout. That's what the warranty is for.

Congrats and welcome, CrzRsn. I’m Deysha with Ford Service. You can PM me with your dealer’s name and order number so I can get you some tracking info.

Most peoples that make it sound like the MT82 problem is so small are the ones that never had issues. The problem ultimately even lead to NHTSA investigation and evening news. The reality is that this MT82 tranny can become your worst nightmare. You might be lucky and never have to deal with some of the things alot of us had to. Other than that, everything else is solid. I love my car, but not so much when it comes to tranny issues.

Honestly, you should change your order to a Brembo car. It makes a hell of a difference, all around. Especially the rear end gearing.

I grew up in Dearborn, and lived in Royal Oak at 11 & Woodward. Enjoy Michigan, get over to the west side of the state, visit St. Joseph, buy a boat, buy some guns.

Enjoy that state.

+2 on the gas money! :D
Congrats & hello from a fellow GHIG GT owner. Get ready for a shower of compliments coming your way once you start taking it out ;-)
