I just ordered the Borla S-Type for my 2013 5.0L and couldn't be more excited. The reason I chose the S-Type over the Atak is because I want a really deep, rumbly sound.
My friend has the Atak on his 2011 GT and it was loud, but when I drove it I just wasn't digging the racecar sound that he likes; he is aiming for the sound of my dad's 900HP Supersnake (which will never happen) haha!

For a little background info - My mom has a 2011 GT350, I dont know if anyone has had a chance to hear what they sound like, but let me tell you it is beyond amazing. Hands down best-sounding car I have ever heard; it literally rumbles the ground when you are standing outside :hihi: That is the sound I am aiming for! So, I was doing some research on it trying to find the kind of exhaust they out on it, but all i got was that it is a "Borla style" exhaust. And when i put it on the lift, I saw that it doesn't have any aftermarket headers. It looks like its just custom-made from the cats back. And I know the sound has a lot to do with the dual exhaust in the center right next to each other. I can load a video of the GT350 sound if anyone would like to hear it.

My question is for anyone who likes a super deep, throaty sounding exhaust. What should I do on top of the S-Type to make my car sound like a monster?? Like I said before, I dont think I want to do the headers and all that because from what i've heard that seems to make it raspier. HELP!

Actually, re-reading your post may have gave me some ideas...

An aftermarket h-pipe can help you with making it sound like a monster. H-pipes normally have a deep sounding tone, rather than the raspy x-pipes. In my opinion, h-pipes are what muscle cars are meant to have.

The Shelby crowd like to use MRT h-pipes, don't know if they make those for the 5.0 though. Worth a look.

Katie, I'm a single 22/M/CA. Let's get married.

In all seriousness, I'd suggest re-evaluating headers as an option, or consider spending some investment into a forced-induction application. :bigthumbsup

Aside from my (highly sarcastic) post, I'd have to mostly agree with you.

I did have 1 friend who drove a V6 mustang like she stole it, and she did have a bangin body. She also liked to work on cars. Go figure... But she's one in a million from personal experience. :bigthumbsup

Most of the time, the Mustang drivers out here, drive & treat their car like any other commuter car.

Ps: sorry to get off-topic. I am highly jealous of your family's garage collection. Hence my above post. :p

HAHAHA! this post has definitely gone way off topic. We're supposed to be talking about how to make my car sound like a monster remember?

Well adding any further sound attenuators (resonators, mufflers, racing mufflers, glass packs) is going to be counter intuitive. Do you have a catback system or an axle back system? If you have an axle back, removing your resonators will introduce some more mid range and higher pitched tones and will make it louder. If money is no object: Kooks long tube headers with matching catted X pipe, JPC over axle pipes, then your Borla S-Types.

Yeah after all the reasearch I have been doing and listening to friend's cars, I am definitely going to stay away from the x-pipe because it does make it raspier, but some peolple like that. I want my car to sound like a muscle car though not a race car. haha if I wanted it to sound like a race car I would have kept my V6 ;)

I'll look into that H pipe though. But do you think it is really worth the money for the aftermarket one? is it going to make that much of a difference from the stock H pipe?

Congrats on the exhaust and also that's a nice set of cars your family has.

I would go with the mid pipe. H-pipe over the X-pipe. H-pipe creates a greater surface area for the exhaust gases, meaning better efficiency. The tubes of the X-pipe cross at the middle of the system, compressing more volume of gases into a smaller space. This design decreases the air flow and creates an additional back-up. Thus creating gas-flow, efficiency and muscular sound

JBA makes a great product and even better, I can you a great price. Here's a link to the mid pipes.

OH yes! Us guys...always distracted by you women. :p

I hear there are these new cars coming out that have speakers that can make your car sound like any car ever built. Just plug in your sound files, turn the volume up and let her rip at a red stop light. That'll really confuse people.

That's the best advice I can give. :yup: :grinroll:

(I know I've contributed nothing to this thread. Maybe its best for everyone if I turn around and walk away... I blame the coffee and doughnuts I had this morning!!)

I have the performance catted MRT H-pipe on my 2012 5.0. Along with the bassanis they sound great (should be even better with the Borlas if you want deep smooth rumble). :bigthumbsup

Actually, they do make the deepest exhaust I've heard. Probably because I was sponsored by them, and they're one of the few I've heard in person on the 5.0 (and of course the 6)

I just got the axle-back because I don't think I want to go with an x-pipe because from what I have heard it makes a more raspy, race car like sound. Same with the headers, I havent been able to find any videos or people with 5.0's that have headers and x pipe installed that sound the way I am looking for. It's not even the loudness I REALLY want; its the deep tone.

When I had my 2011 V6 my first modification was a Roush axle-back exhaust. I knew it wasn;t going to sound as good at a V8 but i figured I could try. When it was cold I didnt even want to let my RPMs past 4000 because it sounded so high pitched haha. So i was going to see if an x pipe would make it sound any better but luckily my friend who has a 2012 V6 got the same exhaust as me AND an x pipe and his sounded HORRIBLE! we called his car 2-stroke because it sounded like my 2-stroke quad haha. So i didnt get that x pipe thank god and I got a CAI tuner backage from JLT instead. And believe it or not it made it sound ALOT deeper. I watched alot of videos and went to a lot of car events and I never heard a 3.7L sound as good as mine because they all thought headers and x pipe were the way to go.

So im wondering if maybe a CAI intake package would do the same for the 5.0.

Katie,

The Roush exhaust is the worst sounding exhaust for the 2011+ V6.

Out of all the exhaust's you could have chosen, you found the riciest one of them all.

(Hopefully you don't make the same mistake this time around.)

PS: If you don't believe me, Youtube Solidhadriel Bassani Headers

To hear a difference in tone/sound that the Bassani's make on the V6.
