Hey, ill start by saying this is about my 4.6l 1999 expedition. Since I'm not a member of any of those forums, figured id try and ask here. Hope its still an appropriate thread. Anyways, I recently did a coolant flush and fill (myself) and after doing so my air conditioning started working flawlesssly. This is a great thing indeed, prior to this it only blew HOT air. I just wanted to know what effect it was exactly that the coolant had on the air conditioning and why a flush and fill actually fixed it. Thanks a lot!

How about this. Failure mode effects management.....

FMEM has to do with how the PCM manages certain failure. Consider the case of a motor overheating. Name some things that can be done to control the amount of heat a motor generates.

If you said turn off the AC....Well go to the head of the class.

If the overheating gets worse, the PCM will take out timing followed by turning off alternating cylinders.

The idea is it's better to go slow than be broken down or ruin a motor.
