It has no effect on your emissions system or emissions, but are you really asking us whether you should plan on returning it to stock every year at inspection time?

We sympathize with you, living in occupied territory.

I admit that J.Orbit is correct. While working on my nephew's Mustang assembling the K&N parts to themselves were a bit of a pain. However his car is not California Emissions compliant. He has absolutely no issue. As long as the Cal-OBD II diagnostic array overlooks the prosthetic windpipe, switching is a mere cakewalk.

There is a difference in CARB (California) requirements and NY along with other states following CA emissions on new cars.

As I've understood it you don't need CARB certification on mods in NY as long as you pass emissions and did not remove cats.

I'm in NYC and have had 4 cars with CAI's that have passed inspections at gas stations and Ford dealers without any comments from the inspectors.

Like others have said just save all the stock parts just in case....

You should not get a check engine light on a no-tune required CAI, most MAF's can adjust 10% up or down before throwing a code just as if the filter was dirty.

You shouldn't have a problem getting inspection, don't bother swapping both to stock unless they complain.

K&N Typhoon Cold-Air Intake

A parameter of 10% plus or minus mass-airflow is somewhat tight. The K&N ruturns a 5% increase in horsepower. I hope it takes an equivalent increase in the amount of air .

A tune should take the CAI into account so should not throw a code.

A CAI without a tune is more likely to throw a code.

K&N 69-3529TP Cold-Air Intake

A K&N 69-3529TP appears to be more like the AirRaid than the Steeda. The intake tube seems to be about the same size as stock. The SCT3015-S3 is a bit of an overpriced investment just to tune a CAI.
