I took my car in to the dealer this morning,( per customer service rep.)
They had no knowledge of me having an appointment. They kept the car to take a look. I just got a call, telling me that the shifter shaking at 2500 RPM upon deceleration could be caused by my K&N drop in filter. Where do they find these people ?
Then for the Transmission shifting hard between 1st and second. they want to change the fluid. It's hard shifting even when it's warmed up. Whatever !
They are keeping it overnight to see if the tick in the motor when cold can be duplicated. I understand that part, but a drop in air filter, may be causing my transmission problem. They're going to have to do better than that.

yeah, this kind of stuff always makes me wonder -- are they intentionally lying, or are they completely clueless?

I am starting to hate the dealership! I just had to get my throttle body replaced.

They got people like that, right off the counters of Auto Zone, Advanced Auto Parts, and Pep Boys. You know the ones I mean, the kind that you can give them the part number and they still want the year make and model of your car to look up the part. That's where they get those from. When the S197 first came out, I figured I would wait a couple of years and let them get the bugs out. Now here we are in 2011, with the 2012's already out and it seems like instead of getting them out they're putting them in.

Why would they open the stock air intake compartment to diagnose a transmission problem in the first place?

Tell them to put a STOCK filter in it and if that cures it you'll buy him lunch, and if it doesn't you want a free oil change, on second thought I don't think I would want them to even do an oil change as dumb as they sound. Let he buy you lunch !

Make sure there is no gravel in your tire treads. That could be causing the problem too

It's because the filter says K&N on it, not Motorcraft, so you didn't buy it thru them. Some dealers are morons like that, and the way the TSBs are coming down the big wigs at Ford are pushing them to be that way. Is there another dealer close by? If so go somewhere else.

I told you not to drop that filter into your transmission.

Hate to bring this up, but a buddy of mine works at a tranny shop. He says K&N filters are one of their best money makers. OP didn't mention it but I'll assume we are talking an automatic tranny here.

The problem is sooner or later everyone will over oil that filter. That causes the sensors in the intake to give false readings and make the tranny shift improperly.

If it's a new car and the filter has never been re oiled I doubt it is causing this problem, but I'll never use an oiled air filter on anything I own.

If the tech or service manager ever said anything moronic like that to me I'd call "bullsh*t" and then ask them to prove it. Show me in writing the service bulletin or whatever proof they have.

That's ridiculous. Go in there armed w/ the info you need and don't let them get away w/ anything. Remember, they need our business more than we need them.
