I haven't been driving my cobra to work lately. Mainly because the weather is cold and crappy. Anyway one evening while sitting in the break room me and some co-workers were just sitting around and shooting the bull, when a guy from another dept. walks in to go to the vending machine. My boss says "well there is the hot rodder." The night before this guy hauled ass out of work and practically ran three people off the road. The guy responed by saying "that's why a bought a hemi, I wanted something with some power, not some p.o.s. like a camaro or mustang." Well this got my attention. I asked the guy if his remark was meant for me. He said yes. I said you know what I drive. His response, "yeah its just slobra, they are just overpriced and overated." So I calmly say well I tell you what I will drive my slobra to work tomorrow night and we find out just how slow it is.

The next night I get to the parking lot before him and wait for a long time. Finally he comes out and I say well lets find out how slow my car is. He says well what do you have done to it. I was taken somewhat by surprise and so I pop the hood and explain what I have done. He responds by saying well it doesn't matter I have a hemi. He walks over and gets in his SRT-8 charger.

First race was from a roll. We took off and my ass end was all over the place but I was still pulling away. I hit third hook up and I was gone, by the time I was shifting into fourth he was a long way behind me.

Next race was from a stop light. He motions he wants to try again. The light turns green, I ride the clutch just enough to hook up, hit second and race was already pretty much won. I hit third and was like he was in reverse, I stay in hit fourth and was just a spec in my mirror.

I pull into a gas station and wait on him. He walks up and says, "well what did you think would happen your supercharged." To which I respond "Hey you were the one calling my car a slobra, not to mention I showed and told what I had done to my car and still wanted to race. Next time you feel like running your mouth, be careful who run it to." Pissed off he got in his car and sped off.

What a *******. I did think it would put up better fight though.

Now which one is overated. Maybe it just the area I live in but all SRT-4 and SRT-8 drivers respond the same way after a loss. Well at least 98% of them react that way.:sterb:

Awesome.:winks Jerk like that deserves to lose in the worst way possible. I can't believe he thought his "magic" hemi could beat a supercharger.

Its all those dam adds that ask "you got a hemi?" Todays hemi doesn't have the respect as the old one did, especially in a pig of a car that wieghs over 4000 lbs. Those guys are just pissed they payed $40k for a wanna be muscle car. Even better is the guys with the Daytona rams with the same 345 horse as a regular lighter wieght 1500 ram. The wing must make it faster, dam ricer looking crap.

nice kill. he had it coming. If he knew anything about the late model Cobra's being supercharged, he wouldn't have been surprised when you showed him around under your hood.

Good job!!!!!!!

I've killed a few hemi's myself. They don't impress me much...

I just love the "Hemi" attitude... I've hot a Hemi, so I can smoke anything......... It has 14 gazillion horsepower, but only runs 14's-15's stock.......

It's as bad as the "Chebby" attitude from the guy with the old beat up Crapmaro, I have a 350 so I can beat anything....

Or the Beemer attitude, which I think is the worst.
BTW, I schmoked a BMR last night, where the right lane ends on SR 54 heading towards Zephyrhills, jerk tried to cut in front of me, no one else but me and him on the road. I wasn't trying to race, but I knew that lane he was in (right) ended, he should merge in behind me. Nope, he has a BMW, so naturally he shouldn't merge behind anyone else, he DESERVES to be in front....

We took off from the light going easy, he started pushing steadily on the gas, I knew what he was doing, so I matched him. He, of course, decides to punch it to get in front. I floor it in 2nd and jump two carlengths in front. Made the tires chirp for him.....

Damn, spent all that money on a 5 series to get schmoked by a domestic car. Poor beemer guy.....

you have to admit Dodge did a real good job of promoting the Hemi if it works well enough that everyone automatically thinks Hemi = king of the road. A friend of mine got smoked by me in his new Durang Hemi, but that wasn't even a race, i was just driving fast and later I learned he was actually trying to race me...hahaha
All car's have that affect on people though, you hear that one is really really fast and then you think you might be in the same boat as he was, works on every make of car there is. Many GT's have thought they're just as good as mine is, even an 05 GT thought he was just as good as mine was, they don't understand the technicalities that go into different cars...I wanna kill a Hemi myself but just so I can see if I can...if I get walked well guess what, at least I know I got walked by so and so car...won't be the first won't be the last...
***correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't there more cars with hemi's...it stands for hemispherical heads right, or pistons...it's just the Hemi name that's trademarked by Dodge, not the actual technology right???

That was a great story. When he said "well what did you think would happen, your supercharged" I would have replied, yeah, my little 281ci mod motor vs your 6.1 liter 372 ci hemi.

I like your style....no b.s....all action.....great way to put the smack down.
BTW, how fast is your cobra? I saw some SRT8's at Fontana run some 12.8's.

Agreed! Great kill.

Not only did you bring Pride to the Mustang by tactfully telling him that he shouldn't bad mouth your car, but you slammed him into the dirt AFTER letting him know EXACTLY what you had under the hood.

Very nice.

Being a Mopar guy, but loving the Mustangs as well, I have to say:

There has been a time when on the back of the Mopar Parts catalog was written: "Proud of our Heritage"
The old 426 Hemi was way underrated at 425 HP and now they need a SRT team to get an (probabely overrated) 425 HP out of a Motor?

WHAT A SHAME! they should have kept the 5.2 and 5.9 MAGNUMS.
At least everybody would know what it is all about...

I'll take that back as soon as the first 500 HP Hemi hits the road. That's what I call a HEMI.

Ohh, sorry, thats where the story would have ended if it were me.

You should tell him u sprayed, challenge him to go again, and say that next time you won't spray.

Invite some buddies to watch, and video it.

Just to hand his backside to him again! Then, after, let him try to find a bottle to blame his second loss on......

Its obvious Hemi sedans is totally different than a Mustang. Try asking your passenger how comfortable they are in the back of your stang......... I bet they rather sit in the back of a Hemi, especially on a long drive.... Lets wait for the Challenger to come out and let the comparison begin..

I almost got rid of my S4 for the 300C SRT-8, but after seeing the Challenger maybe ill wait & get rid of my ITR for it........ Not unless, i can get a good deal for the new Shelby Cobra :winks

yea hemi means it has hemispherical combustion chambers. the hemi design is best used in high horsepower higher revving engines, thats why it was originally designed for use in nascar. Anyways other cars have hemispherical combustion chambers, such as the boss 429, (semi hemi) cuz it had a small squish area in there. i think even some older escorts, like the 88 escort gts have hemispherical combustion chambers too so yea thats what it means.

Update! The guy is now saying that I have hidden a bottle somewhere in my car. That is the only reason I beat him so badly.

So I have agreed to race him again and I told him if he could find a bottle on my car I'll give him 500 bucks.

I am also trying to talk a buddy into catching the whole thing on camera. Hopefully he will agree and I will post the video when the race goes down.

yeah, hemi stand for hemispherical. but, when the term was coined the motor actually had round top pistons and round cumbustion chambers in the head. if you look at a cut away of the newest hemi motors you will see the pistons are not rounded on top like the old hemi's, they are flat top. and they don't have the plugs in the middle of the head. the new hemi's have two plugs per cylinder. And, he new hemi's don't even really have a hemi-spherical head. heck, the old Grand Am's had the same kind of heads on them. but the plugs went right in the middle of the heads.
Dodge revived an old name and marketed it very succesfully.
I know the mid 80's Corvette ZR1 had the same design. plugs in the middle of the head, center of cumbustion chamber. i can only guess that the newer corvette's kept this technology.

ZR1s produced only from 1990-1995, LT5 they were a 32 valve V8 with 4 overhead cams! NOT DOHC, BUT QOHC (Q FOR QUAD). The design was not a hemi tho, and its funny but GM didnt accept this overhead type motor and went back to a pushrod, and even now, their flagship motor the LS7 is still pushrod and only 2 valves per cylinder. BTW, the new hemi engines by chrysler are actually NOT hemis, they just use the name for the image and sales they are getting. If you want a real hemi, you'll have to buy an old 60-70 car or a crate from mopar performance.
