My header mount is so close to the rear driver's side plug that even a thin-walled socket won't work. I'll likely have my mechanic grind the mount to make room, but anyone know of any tricks in the meantime? I think it is my misfiring cylinder and I want to get it out to see asap - and I don't have a grinder. There is plenty of room around the motor there...

Yeah some times a crows foot wrench or a regular combination wrench (box end/open end) wrench can get in there. If you can't find anything that works you'll have to loosen the headers.
