For work, I leave before sun up and return after sundown. I also work nights sometimes. My car is my office and my trunk is my file cabinet, so I got tired of not being able to see anything in the trunk, especially when items would block the light entirely. I added a 3 foot strip of LEDs and the difference is amazing. Here's a link for what I bought:

I got the 3 foot length. It comes with self adhesive backing, so I just stuck it under the rear deck and ran wire under the carpet to the existing light. Site sponsor Diode Dynamics also has some affordable options that are similar. Just thought I would share.

I did this exact same thing about a year ago. I also replaced the trunk light with an LED bulb so now the bulb and the strip are the same color. It sure helped light up the trunk area.

Glad I could help! I mounted the strip more towards the rear of the vehicle than the speakers. Basically just inside the trunk. There is a perfect flat spot there that runs the width of the car. If you look up under, you can't miss it. That's probably on '10-'14 models. Not sure about prior models.

Did ALL my interior bulbs & License plate lights with Diode Dynamics LEDs. Great prices, QC, & product they stand behind! Didn't get the brightest ones because the mid level stuff is even much brighter over the stock. You also get rid of the gross yellow tint for a crisp cool white. Highly recommend DD

that is a great idea! There is ALWAYS something blocking off the trunk light, so it makes a lot of sense lighting from above with a strip of LED.

I can't wait to take my car out of storage to do this.... not until April, unfortunately :-(

I did the same thing several months ago. However, I used blue LEDs, to illuminate the trunk and my amps/subs. The light is also bright enough for me to search my tool bag, or other items that I may have in the trunk.

Lawman834,
Nice modification and post. I have the same problem that when I leave at O'Dark thirty in the winter here, I can barely see were to put my stuff in the cargo organizer.
I do have questions about getting to the power.
1. Did you buy their power cord to connect to the existing trunk lights?
2. Did you tap directly into the lights?
3. It looks like an easy mod, is that true?
Thanks

Stuck some in, about 2' worth. Wired them with 18 gauge wire to the extant hot side of the trunk lamp and to a conveniently positioned ground behind the rear trunk trim. Works great, no issues. Cost $15 and about 30 minutes of my time.

Some of the others have replied with answers similar to what mine will be. 1) No, I just used some similarly gauged power wire and hooked it up to the leads that are on the strip. 2) I tapped into the wires at the plug and fished the wire down behind the plastic trim. 3) Super easy. Took me maybe 20 min and I solder everything and use shrink tubing.
