To anyone who installed cams in their automatic gt- What are the pros and cons of the selection you made from your own experince driving the car?

I have read so many posts on numerous different websites that I cant even remember what i read. It seems most people are happy with the sound of their cam but not as happy about the performance. (of course i will check with the vender to make sure i get what is going to work best but i wanted to here it from you guys that paid the price for the rest of us)

I have an 05 GT with the following MODs: CAI, shorty headers, TB spacer, factory H pipe-no cats, homemade delete plates, flowmasters,SCT tune, 4:10 gears, eibach springs,18x9.5 y2ks w/nittos, lead foot. I took it to the track once just to see and ran the best of 8.9 in the 8th at 80MPH.

It is not my DD and it is not a serious track racer. I do not want to spend 1K on the sound of my car... i want drivable performance that i do not loose anything else through the RPM curve. Most cams seem to perform worse than stock until 4500 rpm not great for a stock auto tranny...

Thank you very much for your time and opinon...

I don't think cams would be what your looking for given what your describing.
you would be spending more the 1K for cams. i've checked with some ford dealers and a lot of them were charging more money for the install than the cams. i'm sure you could find someone to put them on for cheaper than a ford dealer. but i'm pretty sure if you bought ford racing parts (and found a ford dealer than would install them for you) they would at least make sure they put them in right. you're going to need a tune too and that's the catch. i havn't been able to find a ford dealer yet that would use a sct tuner. i don't know i was looking at cams ( and sorta still am) but i think to get the whole package sound/performance you're going to need more than just he cams themselves. anyone else want to chime in on this topic?
i am going to be spend $1,600 for FRPP Hot Rod Cams, delete plates, and a custom dyno tune. I am expecting about 30 HP increase but the Hot Rod cams are not that powerful, i am going more for sound, not power so much.

That's why I was thinking that cams would not be a good mod in Daves case. Not much yield in his current configuration for the cost based on the cams he'd be able to run given what he's looking for.

Nice mod if your looking for a little lope and a little power. However, if it's all about performance......probably some better mods out there.

In your case Dave if I wanted to mod for performance I'd look into doing more suspension work. You'll get more out of it then the cams for $1,000.

Just my .02
All the cams seem to net about the same HP 20-40 depending on tune and dyno-and i can deal with that it is realistic. The only cam that seemed to perform through the whole RPM curve (looking at the dyno chart) was the FR cam that people say is more for sound??? I would like to hear from the people who have installed cams on their automatic vehicles to see what worked good or what issues they had. I have read all the post about i got this or that HP with this or that cams but very few say what they are like to while driving (except for the sound)-especially for the automatics
I have seen all the dyno sheets and i know what cams sound like what... but i have not heard of anyone with an automatic and a stock converter say "ya worked great" or "it drives like crap unless you are racing it" from the people that actually have them- what is it like driving around town with them. i was thinking about getting either FRPP or NSR stage II
