I updated my radiator to a SVE aluminum radiator and had some clearance issues reinstalling a Lincoln Mark VIII radiator fan to it. The shop shaved down some of the metal tabs, they look like little triangles in a circular pattern on the center of the fan. In the process, one of the fan blades cracked at the top and was glued back together. Once reinstalled the fan worked but now it causes a vibration through out the car when it comes on. You can feel it through the steering wheel, shifter, pedals, basically all over the car. Once the fan shuts off vibration goes away.

Could the fan blade that cracked be causing it to go way out of balance or possibly the shaving down one of those tabs also cause it to be out of balance? I'd like to maybe swap out just the fan blade to see if that could be it but they are difficult to find without getting an entire assembly. Anyone one know where I could find one? If the shaving of the metal piece is causing it then I'll just go another route and get a different fan that fits.

short answer- yes, it's out of balance the only way to correct is replace. The oem specific replacement (aftermarket) e-fans are readily available and run about $100 for the whole assembly.

Trying to find a fan blade without the assembly is going to be difficult.
I did not know anyone made replacements, good to know.

Did the Mark VII fan actually even fit the original radiator?
I've heard of electric fans being swapped on Foxbodies but they're usually the ones from the Contour.
A fan blade is not going to stay together with glue for very long. Get rid of it before it comes apart and launches into your new radiator. You can't buy just the blade for an electric fan. You have to get a whole new fan.
Like Beechkid said you can buy an electric fan kit that will actually fit properly at LMR, CJ Pony, or AM.

I use a black magic 185 in my fox. Works great but the flex a lite controller died on me.
Using the Holley to run the fan and it has worked perfectly.
Contour fans didn't exist back when i bought the fan. It moves a lot of air.

In the aftermarket world much of the e-fans are junk in terms of design & quality IMHO. The OEM units flow anywhere from 50% to 200% more CFM than the "Hi Perf" aftermarket units, last for years in real world daily, all weather use and are quiet- and are less expensive in most cases!

You will also hear/read about people having issues/concerns with their engines running warm/hot, once it is really verified and there are no mechanical issues, 99% it can be traced right to these HP Aftermarket fans.....those using oem units- I have never in 20 years heard of an issue related to them in any way in regards to cooling.

There are many on the market to choose from…..the V6 Ford Taurus fan (90-95 3.8L), If space is tight, the 95-00 V6 Ford Contour, 99-02 V6 Mercury Mystique, 99-02 V6 are flatter in design IIRR but if you don’t mind making your own shroud…..
