For a unmodified car the shorty header is actually better then the long tube but once you start doing mods to your motor the long tubes start to out perform the shorty headers. The more mods the better they perform! With most long tubes you are trading convenience for power. Long tubes in most cases are a better performing header but they are a major pain in the ass because they are bulky. Long tubes can create heat issues in daily drivers with overheating your starter making it so your car won't turn over after the car is warmed up! I had a buddy that would have to wait several minutes for his car to cool down after filling it with gas to get his starter to turn over!
I have also heard several guys say they had to get a cherry picker to lift their engine to install their long tube headers and lift the engine and remove the header completely to replace their worn starter motor! :eyebulge: Also with you being in California unless your are running a pre 1975 car, you can't legally run a long tube header unless it is track only car. They don't make a smog legal long tube header. Just a heads up.
Hope this helps,
