Looking at pursuing a career in the automotive industry. Any advice?

Im 16 and about to graduate in a 3 months. (yes ill barely be 17 when i graduate. But ive always been into cars, mostly mustangs and fords. Ive grown up around all my dads mustangs and just love it. I know my fair share having grown up with it my whole life; but when it really comes down to it i love anything with a motor. it just facinates me, and i would like like to move into a career in the automotive world. mostly like high performance tech or auto restorations. Something about fast old muscle gets me everytime. Maybe if any of you guys have been down this road can give me a few pointers and heads-up's. Any advice would be greatly appreciated as to personal experience with schools/ training programs. Thanks guys.

you def. sound enthusiastic, aim for getting into a machine shop wehre they build motors or like something like a place like boyd coddingtons hot rods, now you may have to settle for being a regular garage mechanic at midas or something but dont give up keep lookin for the right career and u mentioned ur dads mustangs, why dont yall try to open a garage together and specialize in building fast fords?? just a suggestion (my dad and i did the same thing but i only work in the shop as a hobby after my day job lol)

yea buddy. my first mustang project i had just turned 16 and was driving a jeep grand cherokee (what a piece..haha) to work and back and found me an old 89 lx 4 cyl that i was gunna drop a v8 in. well problems started happening with the jeep and decided to get rid of it well i bought a ranger just like my dads from my boss im working for. and now that im making payments on a new truck: my dad told me i need to get rid of the mustang since im only making $8.00 an hour on a 35 hour work week at the local jimmy johns. lol.
i would love to do something like that with my dad but ya know problem is money. my family isnt loaded. both my parents work really hard and just make ends meet. and it would be really risky trying to get the loan for that with the economy the way it is. Not just anyone has the money to have their 302 bored over to a 306.
but mann it would be nice =)
