Welcome... That's not a whole lot of miles on a 5.0. Original engine and transmission?
Thanks I am going to test drive it this weekend
I'd say wait till after you drive it. A car is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.
For 150K miles, you might be able to get it for close to $2000.
Shop around lots of stangs out there. Good luck and I hope you get what you are looking for.
Definitly take your time and look around...took me 6 months to find the right one
Try Fordmustangtrader.com they might have some more options for you. Most of these cars by now have been beaten to death. Make sure there are no major leaks from the engine, tranny, rear end or smoke from the tailpipe. If the car is a 5-speed make sure that none of the gears grind going forward. Check for major rust under the car as these cars are of unibody construction and once rust starts they do not hold up as long as full frame cars. Also check the torque boxs. These are under the car in front of the rear wheels and give support to the unibody construction to help with the twist effect of the engine during acceleration. Make sure they are not all cracked and bent up from years of abuse. If the car is ragged out you will be able to tell from a test drive. Stay away if it is. Ford made a ton of these cars and if you get in a hurry to buy one you will end up buying some one elses junk. I made this mistake with the last 88Gt I had. And if you want to modify the car I still suggest that you start with a stock mustang because then you will know that the work done to the car was done correctly and not by some fool that never should have had the hood up in the first place and that is why he is selling you his ill thought out broken down junk. When ford built these cars most of the major components were of very high quality . It is the little parts such as interior trim and electrical components that can be junk but you can always upgrade. these parts can be fixed in time for a little money so dont let a little cosmetic work turn you off to an otherwise sound car.
