map/reading lights won't switch off...

Not to be a smart-a$$... but did you check the dash dimmer switch/dial... it doesn't take much for it to flip to the map lights "on" position...

DOH!!! You mean if the dash dimmer is on the 100% on position then overhead lights won't go off...... because you are right, today morning I did turn the dash dimmer all the way to 100% .... goddurnit!!!.. ($%)^(%$^# ... I'll go check right now.... thanks for the tip!! double DOH!

LOL! hope it was that easy.... Ever car I have ever owned had some kind of "click" or "resistance" to flip the dome light on.... but for some reason our cars don't seem to have that...

You wouldnt belive what alot of people dont know about thier cars. Usually the older people tho.
I have a nice resistance spot on mine. But it seems just as easy to hit the buttons on the overhead.


sidenote. Ya know those VW's that have the auto 4 window down thingy with the key in the door lock? Well we had one in the shop and I was messin with it, checkin it out was new to me. So I mentioned to the guy about how cool that was, and he was clueless his car even did that. he was about 30 yrs old.

ROTFL! LOL!... Yea Yea... go ahead, make fun at my expense ;-) ... but I sure hadn't realized that the dimmer switch for the ***instrument panel*** is linked to the overhead lights.... guess I ain't that smart.. ... but it worked... so thanks everyone!

This topic heading really caught my attention...

You guys are laughing - but a car was brought into my dealership with the exact same problem and we thought the owner was crazy just the same.
Pressed the buttons to disable the map lights - nothing.
Toggled the dimmer switch - nothing.
Checked the door contact switches - all okay.

Turns out the dimmer switch itself was faulty and always kept power on to the interior lights. Go figure.

You're killing me! Glad your victim took it like a man.

I told my Dad about the guy locking his car and climbing out the passenger's side of his vert b/c he was too close to the garage wall. Top up, doors locked and no keyhole in the passenger's side makes for God trying to give him one dead battery just to see what he will do.

We all had a laugh and a head scratcher at that one b/c it could have happened to any of us! The seat backs don't just flop down b/c you push on them, from the trunk side! They only open from the inside on the '05-'06.
