I have a 97 gt and maybe like once every 3 months or so, when i go to start my car it will start and then stall right away. It will stay started as long as i keep the RPMs up to about 1000 and i can drive as long as i keep the RPMs up when stopping other wise i look like an idiot who cant drive a stick and it stalls out. This problem will go on for about 10-20 minutes before it finally stays running. About a year and a half a go i had my fuel injectors and fuel system flushed out with some high pressure cleaning system so i know there cant be much build up in the lines. Do you think it may just be my fuel injectors? Maybe just the fuel filter? Possibly build up in the throttle body? Has anybody else had this problem with their car? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Regardless of what it is when i store it this winter im gonna pull everything apart and clean the hell out of it. Thanks, Justin

Change the filter, and check for vaccum leaks.

Drummaster:

This is a common problem on Fords.
I am 99% sure it is the IAC!!!
See this post, it is brand new!

yea, i just saw that thread a few minutes ago so im gonna try some carb cleaner like it said. It's the cylinder shaped part right on top on the drivers side correct? That was what i was told, but just checkin to make sure.

Carb Claner works fie if the part is JUST clogged, corbon build up.
If your IAC has worn electrics (it is a small electric motor) carb cleaner doesn't help @ all.
Replacing would be your better choice...
This is my favorite part................ITS THE IAC VALVE!!!!!!!!!
Wow, thanks everyone for the good tips. I replaced my fuel filter today when i did the oil change and all that other fun stuff. It needed to be done anyways. So since this problem is most likely the IAC, what does it roughly cost to replace this?
$40 or so o replace it. You can check for build up in the throttle body easily, just pull the intake tube off and wipe a clean rag in there. If it comes out black, then you've got buildup.
Ok, so I had the fuel filter replaced yesterday and didnt have any problems at all yesterday after the one time it was doing this in the morning. Generally it only does it ever once in a while, every few months or so. So everything was fine until about 10 minutes ago. It did the same thing again. So looks like I am going to be buying a new IAC valve. And for $40 or so thats no big deal; It's not something outragously priced like i assumed it would be.:worship. Now should i just buy this part from the manufacturer or what would you suggest as a better brand to purchase?

Yeah the carb cleaner is only a bandaid fix and i did try it first, it worked for a week or 2 and then went back to stalling. I bought my IAC at autozone for 40 bucks and so far i have had it over a year and maybe 5k on it and no problems.
