MERCURY gone bye bye!!

Yup, Mercury is gone after this year. I was hoping the brand would last so that maybe a new cougar could be added to the pony wars. not to be tho. I remember when David Pearson drove a cyclone in the late 60's early 70's in nascar. i guess sales were just too flat. at least lincoln is still here.

I read that in the paper today. I think they should build the Maruader again with the new 5.0 to close it out!:bigthumbsup

That would be sick!!
It always makes me sad to see the old names disappear. But... like all the others, they weren't doing much with it. They haven't made anything to keep them from being completely forgettable in a long time.
It's kind of sad to think of all he great names that have gone away in the last few years, AMC, Oldsmobile, Plymouth, Geo (OK that one is no big loss) Pontiac, Saturn (they were supposed to be the wave of the future) and now Mercury. I think of all the performance names that we will never see again, AMX, 442, Roadrunner, Trans Am, Couger etc. I either had one or had friends with one of those when I was in High School. God I feel old. I think I'll go for a ride in the GT, it's my own personal time machine.

i would still like to see ford make a limited run special edition cougar, along with chrysler making a roadrunner and gm a trans am. the platforms are there. just some tweaking of the tooling and there you have it. then if the sales are good, make them on a regular basis or get an aftermarket company do it. maybe year one could do it.

Kinda sad.The 1949-1951 Mercurys are still one of the most popular custom cars ever made.
You can't find a Merc dealer here. I've looked. It's all just Ford/Lincoln
