metallic noise when engine is cold

I have got manual transmission in my GT 2005. Then I start the cold engine, I hear metallic noise from gear box or cluth. It sounds like metal to metal friction noise :(. The noise disappear after 20-40 seconds, I do not have this kind of issue when engine is warm. I appreciate your help.

Quick question. When you push the clutch in does it stop or does it keep doing it?
No differences when I push the clutch. I wonder if anybody have had this kind of problem.
When I start out in first, I will hear kind of a grinding noise coming from the transmission, but that has been normal for these cars.
there is a known issue with the metal cover on the bell housing coming loose and vibrating until the car is warmed up. I don't remember the specifics or the TSB. but, I would look there. if this is the problem, it is an easy fix.
Is it danger failure ? Any potential serious damage ?
My friend's mustangs do not have mentioned metallic grinding noise issue, only my car.
It's the flex plate contacting the flywheel when cold. Won't hurt anything but it is annoying. Mine does it too.
If the bell housing dust cover plate is causing the noise, then make sure its bolts are tight.
If the bottom 2 bolts are missing, then you can get them at a Ford Dealer. They have a 10mm x 1.5mm thread, and are no longer than 3/4". Sometimes placing a rubber washer between the plate and the bell housing is needed to eliminate the noise.
Here's a pic.

That's generally not the source of the 'cold start' rattle though.

Agree. But wanted to make sure no stone was left unturned. Replacing 2 missing bolts on my car's bell housing dust cover silenced a metallic rattling sound during a cold start.
I have checked the bolts, they are tight. Any other idea what can be the noise source ?

I would almost guarantee it's the flex plate. The transmission needs to be dropped to fix it.

What is the flex plate ? How can I fix it ?
I would also check fluid level. Just to make sure.
Fluid level is OK
Actually the term flex plate isn't quite correct. Flex plates are only on auto transmissions. I think it's actually just a dust cover.
my auto does it to is this the same thing stlwagon on mine.

I have got the same issue, it is grinding not rattle or vibration.
I do not know how to fix it.
