I installed the MMD retro mirrors this weekend. The install was super easy, only took about 45 min. total.

The paint-match is perfect. No blemishes or anything. American Muscle did a great job packaging the product. The overall look of the mirror is awesome. Looks way better than the OEM mirrors. The instructions were simple to follow as well.

The fit is....well.....so, so... I mean, the holes line up, everything goes together fine, but when tightened down there is a gnarly gap at the top (see pictures)...They supplied some washers so you could play with it and get it to sit flatter when you tighten it up, but no matter how many washers I add, or how much I jiggle it into what appears to be a better position, the gap still exists...This is my biggest complaint with the mirrors actually. I may have to get some gorilla glue or something and clamp it down.

The actual glass mirrors themselves suck. Buyer beware. The other reviews don't lie. This settup is definitely for looks over function. The mirrors are smaller - no big deal. There is no mini mirror for blind spots - no big deal...But the worst part...almost the deal breaker... is that the mirrors make you feel like you're in a fun-house at the circus. The reflections are distorted..uneven.....I drove around a little bit and I wasn't bothered a whole lot by it. I could see other cars when I needed to, so they serve their purpose...But If you're a person who relies heavily on your side mirrors, think twice about this purchase.

But they look great!

Hey Chiz,

First of all, I'm glad to hear that you're loving the look of the mirrors! Who needs to see when you look that good right? Just kidding, I completely agree with you that these are more designed for looks rather than a visual upgrade to the stock mirror but you should definitely have a much better line of sight than you are describing!

Did you end up having them installed properly (I know you mentioned fitment issues). Maybe that has something to do with it?

I just spoke with a coworker of mine who has these installed and he did say that although the mirror is smaller than stock, he does not have any trouble seeing.

Looking forward to hearing back from you!

Hey Will,

The install was fine and they're on there correctly. The glass mirror fits just fine in the housing and I like i said I can see behind me no problem. Its just the quality of the glass or something isn't so easy on the eyes. Like, if you lean forward while looking through the mirror (trying to see a blind spot maybe) there is a wavey sensation of what is being reflected back to you. But you can see objects and whatnot fine.

Man....and I thought that the stock mirrors were already too small!

I don't think I'd be able to drive with them even smaller.

But to each their own. Hopefully you can get the "waviness" issue resolved though.

Hey Chiz,

Gotcha! I understand now although that still seems odd to me. Did you want to give a replacement a shot?

I would be more than happy to look into this for you.

Man, great review! I would definitely purchase those for when I had my 2006 Mustang. Those mirrors were pretty much lifted off a Explorer. The 2010's and up already look good stock IMHO.

On a side note, I've always wanted MMD or another manufacturer to make legitimate retro mirrors, chrome and circular. Here is a pic:

Ford,

I might just know a guy!

I can definitely see how those would look awesome and I might just be sending an email to our friends at MMD with your recommendation!

If anyone needs anything, let me know!

What if you took them off, heated them enough to make them bend toward the door, so that when you tightened them down, they would end up being flush?

I've never installed those mirrors before, but there definitely SHOULD NOT be a gap, especially on the top. That creates an entry point for water.
Looking at the pictures, I see you are referring to the large triangular panel (mounting pad to the door?). If those are installed correctly, the fit is horrible, and I would not try gluing them. I would return them. Are you sure that the parts do not hook or catch on to the door frame? I have not taken mirrors off of a late-model mustang, so I apologize for my ignorance here, but I worked at a body shop in college and we would never consider the fitment shown in your pics to be "acceptable". (sorry)

Also, heating and bending sounds like a bad idea to me. They are painted, for one thing, and if the mirrors have any plastic parts, they could be damaged in the process.
