MT82 rebuild, what aftermarket parts are available?

Hi guys, lurker here for a long time, but finally registered to post...

Long story short I am pulling my MT82 and planning to rebuild it.

I'll be throwing in the new MGW Race Spec shifter, as well as a Spec stage 1 clutch and Spec billet aluminum flywheel.

I know Rev Auto and a few other places are offering chem treatments and full rebuilds, but I don't want to freight my transmission across the country.

What aftermarket parts are around for the MT82? I've heard of some brass shift forks? anything else, better sychros etc?

Why bother even rebuilding an MT 82 if you are going to spend money anyways, why not put in a Tremec T56 magnum and be done with it.

Just a thought, not trying to hijack the thread.

Don't know where you are located.( Im near Detroit) But my MT 82 with 2000 original miles on it is sitting on my basement floor. Has a Barton shifter and Shaftmaster aluminum driveshaft with it as well. If you like MT 82's

At the moment, only bronze slide pads for the shift forks to replace the factory plastic ones. We are working on developing an upgrade 26 spline input shaft to eliminate twisting of the factory 23 spline shaft but will require a new clutch disc to work. We are also developing carbon/kevlar lined synchronizer rings for the unit very similar to what the newer TR6060s are using now. I believe these rings will completely change the shifting characteristics of the unit.
I'm very interested in the new sychros... any timing information right now for these? I have my transmission completely torn apart right now.

And in regards to the Magnum XL, I have a v6 at stock power and the gear ratios wont work well with my vehicle.

Agreed. The Tremec gearing wouldn't work well with the V6. Good luck with your rebuild.

Did you have trouble taking it apart? Looking at the Helm manual it seems the disassembly is done with the tranny vertical and it shows special tools you need. Did you find this to be the case?
