Mustang GT... Installed Scott Drake Leather Armrest

5818 Views 20 Replies 12 Participants Last post by  HTRN-SS
I finally got around to installing the leather armrest I bought from Scott Drake. I initially thought it would be a slide on type cover. But it was a slab of leather that needed to be glued and trimmed. On a difficulty scale of 1-10 this was a 7 or 8. The hardest part is getting the seams lined up straight. If you don't then the armrest will look crooked when installed between the seats. Also, getting the pony in the right spot was a bit difficult too. But if you take your time and work carefully the results are worth it. Check out the pic below.

That is SHARP! It really looks nice with your dark interior.
Thanks. I have the leather interior too so it goes nice. The pony symbol or word Mustang doesn't appear too much so this also bring that in to play.

That was definately the right choice for your car.

Scott Drake has awesome stuff and I've purchased many interior parts for our 66 from them. Good company.
That looks great... I like how well it matches the leather seats.
It looks great, nice job :bigthumbsup
Very well done! :bigthumbsup Looks factory installed!
Looks good :bigthumbsup
Thanks everyone. My projects usually require me to do them twice. Glad this wasn't one of them.
Looks great,dresses up the interior.
That has to be a heck of a lot more comfortable too!

Actually not really. It has a very thin felt like under-part. That, in combination with the rounded look of the armrest in general creates the illusion of a padded armrest. It might be a little softer. Looks are deceiving with this one.

I'm hoping my sweaty arm in the summer doesn't dull the pony or Mustang wording. I may lay a small hand towel over it when I'm driving.

I think I saw somewhere a truly padded armrest. I believe it was a replacement piece that was over $100.

I thought there was padding under there. Could you have added some yourself?

Looks awesome. Just like factory!

Yes...there is plenty of extra material to add padding. But the instructions call for you to use spray adhesive on the backing of the leather and the entire surface of the armrest. If you added some padding I don't know how that would work. I thought about a quarter inch of foam but after reading the instructions I decided against it. Also, the underside of your armrest has a plastic piece that gets unscrewed and taken out. The extra leather gets trimmed and wrapped around the armrest and adhered to the plastic inside the area under the armrest. You need the material to remain thin so the plastic piece can be screwed back in. It also helps hold in the leather in addition to the adhesive. I'll be glad to scan and post the instructions. Scott Drake didn't do that.

Oh man, that looks so amazing!

I have the two-tone black leather, dove accents, so I think this would go PERFECTLY with it. The seats and cup holders are the same colors as yours. How much was it?
I have seen some on Ebay that have the GT on them.I like yours it looks good . Nice job I have seen some that did not look that nice.

It was $40. Here's the link. Scroll about 2/3 down. Lots of good stuff on this site.

Thanks dude! It's funny, because I was even on that site a few days ago. I managed to skip over that part every time I've looked through the page:scratchchin
I bought the padded one from Moss Mustang at $129. It is made from Italian leather and fits over the regular arm rest. Very comfortable.
