Hi ! Iam new to the forum. My latest project is a 78 coupe. I am looking to run in the 12`s to start. I am using a 351W with a .512 comp cam ported and polished 69 351 heads rpm air gap and 750 cfm carb and speed pro coated skirt pistons. I have a C4 and a 3200 stall convertor. not sure about the gears I have 3.40s and a set of 3.55s. I will probably use the 3.55s and adjust from there. does anyone have recomondations on tire size and wheel size + backspacing for the rear wheels.

Some more info is needed

Are you going to lighten the car?

The cam is a comp 280-h .512 lift with 230 @50 installed with a centerline of 106. the compression ratio is approxamently 10.5-1. the car is going to be for bracket racing only. All of the interior including the dash has been removed. the front and rear bumpers are also gone. I have narrowed a 65 front valance and bumper to complete the front and have a 67 rear valance but not sure what bumper I will use on the rear. All sound deadener and seam sealer have also been cleaned out. I will be adding a 8point bar and subframe connectors. I almost for got . The carb is currently a edelbrock vacuum secondary AFB. I built this motor for my 1924 T but I pulled it for my mustang and will build a 289 with a cross ram for the roadster. I have pics up of both cars on cardomain.

You should hit 12-s really easy then, Your cam and converter are really small for a drag only car, as is your rear gear.

If you run the 8" install 4.62 gears with a 28 or 26" x 10.5 slick

5000 stall converter

A roller cam with around 265 @ 050 and about 600 lift and you should be low 11's

I have a 74 pinto darg car that runs 11.20's with a 302, I put a mild 351 in it one time when I was donig work on the 302, and the car went 11.38 and did 2 foot wheelstands leaving the line.

Thanks for the info. The motor and trans were intended for the street in my 24 roadster but I wanted to go racing again. This was the fastest and cheapest way for me to get back into racing. I figured that with 4.11`s the car would run low 12`s on a 26x10.5 maybe high 11`s. I will just have to see if a have the money for the gears before the rest of the car is done. The way the motor was built I think that it will be very reliable with the 3.55`s but it may not run as fast as I would like.
