Hey guys, some of you may have read my post on the thread about miles per gallon and what fuel grade we are running. Anyway, I took the car in for the top end ticking noise. They have another 5.0 in now to compare it to and they also told me they have a ford engineer on stand by for them to help them answer any questions regarding the new motor. My dad and I are hoping its just an injector not a lifter or rocker arm. But if it is I will bite down real hard and take it I guess. Just didn't want anyone to crack that motor open yet... Wish my baby luck in the shop today...she's all alone. :sadcry

How many miles do you have on it and when did you start hearing the noise?

I heard the noise when I picked it up w/ 18 miles. They told me to drive it around for a couple of weeks and if it was still there bring it back and they will start figuring it out. I personally think some dumb kid hotrodded it down the street a few times. b/c why did it have so many miles on it? And it was the car I ordered......soooooooooooo.

I think it's horse **** that your car had 18 miles especially since you ordered it and no one should of been test driving it, and with a ticking sound coming from the engine, they should of ordered another one for you.

I agree, that is complete Mustang-DooDoo. The porter probably had too much fun unloading it off the truck. Probably no one was around and pushed your newly born baby too hard.

Did you by chance have a note or sticker like mine did? Mine had 45.8 quality inspection miles and about 12 delivery related miles. picked up with 57 on odo.

I had and still had the same sound on my 2010 v6 and my brother has it on his 2010 gt, what our dealer told us is that it was the fuel injectors, which can be noisy at times. I can beleive this because if it was lifters or something else like that then i would think that it would happen all of the time not just after it is warmed up. Because that is how it is with mine, in the morning it sounds fine, but by the time i get to work or anywere else, if you open the hood you can hear a slight ticcking noise, which is the fuel injectors.

My advice is that if the dealer dosent say anything is wrong, then just get out there drive your new 5.0 and get used to it, these types of motors you can hear the fuel injectors more than others.

Just check it every so often to make sure it dosent get worse, remember you have that 5 year warrenty on the powertrain so relax and enjoy that new 5.0:bigthumbsup

18 miles is not unusual. I watched them unload my first 2010 F-150 from the truck and it had 15 miles on it. My Mustang had 15 miles on it and a previous Mustang I orderd had 12 miles on it when it came off the truck. Seems normal for a Ford.

My Chrysler 300 had 2 miles on it and there were some adjustments needed. This may be the difference. Maybe Ford gets these adjustments made prior to shipping whereas other companies do no and rely on the dealers (MISTAKE!)

what kinda of octane are you using. I heard that if you run 87, it might cause ticking

My 11 had 8 miles on it from Ford (off the truck), to be expected. The Dealer asked me if I wanted the service man to run it thru the normal procedure (drive it it 8-10) miles, I said sure. Mine had 17 miles on it when I took delivery.

Mine had 15.9 when I picked it up last night. That doesn't seem unreasonable to me. If it was in the 50 mile range without the sticker about the random selection for testing I might wonder what had been going on.

That's funny. Took me a split second to get it. I've only had my 2010 Mustang about 2 weeks. I was previously driving a 2008 Corvette which does have lifters and rocker arms. Maybe its the carburator that's bad.

Dude304: Money can't buy happiness, but it can buy jet-skis...have you ever seen anyone on a jet-ski look unhappy?
