My first MUSTANG!!!!! :)

So tomorrow it will be exactly one week since I bought myself a 2009 "Grabber Orange" v6 with the 45th anniversary/pony package with only 31,000km on it:bigthumbsup. I am so far very please with my purchase(granted it is not a v8) but I have a few questions.

  1. What are the best products to keep my baby clean(inside and out)?
  2. What should be some of the first things to upgrade?
  3. When I do end up doing my exhaust to a dual, what mufflers would give it the meanest sound(i know it'll never sound like a v8 and oh no another exhaust question)?
I'm sure I will have more questions as days, months, and years go by. Thanks in advance:cooldude:

Congrats!!!....I have a gt but i love to keep it clean....as for the engine i use purple power and then pressure wash it off and top it off with cd2 engine detailer it really makes the the plastics shine and really impresses my friends. For the outside i like to Turtle Wax Carnauba Paste Wax it takes some time but always looks great and for the inside tuffstuff works great if u find any stains and use armor all to shine up the dash. idk much about v6s but i would think a intake and tuner would have good benefits...idk much about exhaust either but I would recommed getting rid of the v6 bumper and getting one form a gt or gt500 if u go dual but they can be pricey... but anyway best off luck with it!

Welcome Grabber Orange brother! Your first mod should definitely be a Cold Air Intake or dual exhaust. Dual exhaust may sound more pricey, but remember some CAIs need tuners, too.

Thanks man. Sweet interior, is that the yellow welt from MrMike? I have him sending me samples of orange and yellow(don't think I'll like the orange) I have already been looking at the CAI/tuner combos on AM but hell I'll be honest this is my first muscle car and I only know somethings. As for the dual exhaust I know it maybe pricey but it's something that I think with make it look and sound great. I've already decide to go for the H-pipe route when the time comes:gringreen

welcome to the 4.0 family.

you definitely should by a tuner/cai combo from am first this will due the most for your car besides f/i imo.

for exhaust i would buy catback borla stingers with an H pipe. i think borla is the best sounding exhaust for our cars.

good luck and enjoy your new toy:bigthumbsup

So which CAI/tuner combo is the best in your opinion for our cars?
Welcome! And Grabber Orange is definitely one of my favorite colors for your body style. Now on to mods: don't waste your money on a CAI that DOESN'T require a Tune! Save up and do it right the first time! Definitely get a combo CAI/SCT tuner from americanmuscle.com. For exhaust I recommend the duals kit from NewTakeOff.com, the kit is 100% complete to do the job in your driveway and is one of the more popular exhaust options for the 4.0! Don't be afraid to ask questions, there are plenty of knowledgeable people more than willing to help on this site! Oh and while I have your attention THROTTLE BODY SPACERS do nothing for power, fuel... I know you didn't mention it but want to help you not embarrass yourself and also not to spend good money that can be used towards real gains! Enjoy

I was wondering about those spacers, don't really look like they do much. Thanks for the tip:bigthumbsup
I have also looked at the exhaust system on NTO but I'm not sold on the sound on the GTs on the 4.0
First Mustang? Pretty nice for a first. My first was an orange 79 V8. So yours definetly beats my first.

Even though your car is only a couple years old, I would recommend doing a clay bar job on your car. I was amazed by the results. Afterwards you should do any polishing or mild scratch remover. Follow that with a good quality wax. I like the kind that doesn't whiten plastic. There are a lot of great products for all of this.

My first mod on my 08 was dual exhaust. I just had to do it. It was the FRPP dual kit. It uses the mufflers from the Bullit. It adds some nice rumble, but is not anywhere close to a V8 sound. I also didn't get a V8 bumper because that would lead me into getting side skirts and then a front bumper cover. Before I know it, I would have a GT look a like. The FRPP kit comes with nice bumper trim for the cutouts. Once you get headers and possibly FI the exhaust should come alive a lot more.

Of course with the Orange, I would really have to fight the urge of getting a shaker hood. :)

Congrats again on your car. Make a plan and don't just start slapping mods on it. Mods are VERY adictive and will suck your money faster than a drug addiction. Be warned. :winks

conejo is right about the tb spacer, it does nothing for our cars but i had to find out for myself.:gringreen it does make a cool whistle sound open throttle. buy the sct flash tuner from am with the cai combo with free bama tunes for life

Those do look pretty bad a$$ with the orange. I only have two main mods first then I'd like to do somethings to the exterior as well.

I have an X and I think it sounds great. And no, I got the welts from a shop here locally in Ft. Worth. I love my BBK CAI. It has a killer whine. Dual Exhaust was my first performance mod. All my interior pieces were painted by me. These people has basically the same welt I used: About Us

Hey, my first Mustang was Grabber Orange as well. The tuner is the first mod you should do. I really enjoyed the change the tuner has made. I stuck a Bassani axle back on and have been happy with it for now. I have the CDC shaker and have one more exterior mod to do before I go into the interior. Is your car an auto or manual?

Pic :D

Automatics are cool. I have seen vids of automatic sixxers getting rubber in 3 gears with tuners. I am envious of that.
I have yet to see another GO V6 manual. It makes me feel special. :kooky:

I will go duals eventually but have other plans first.
Enjoy all the looks you will be getting with your GO Mustang. :bigthumbsup

Don't sell the dual exhaust kit fron NTO short. The X pipe really adds to the sound, and the GT mufflers make our 4.0's sound very good. If you want to spend $600 for a axel back system from Borla go ahead, but you will still have to get the X pipe and dual mid pipes. For the money the whole kit from NTO is best IMHO. (That's what I have, except I did mine 3 years ago, and I am using 2007 GT mufflers, and they have mellowed to just what I want).
ANd you do want a CAI with a tuner. Getting one without is a "for looks only" upgrade.

Congratulations on your car. I felt the same way when I picked up mine 3 and a half years ago. I couldn't get enough of it.

Good luck with any mods you do.

The beauty of getting this kit is that it is inexpensive I searched high and low before going with the NTO kit for mine (lucky to get the 2010 kit) I listened to 100's of youtube videos until I was beating my head against a wall. I figured that the most important part was to get the duals in place, if I didn't like the sound of the mufflers all I would have to do is change mufflers. I have been pleased with the sound, looks and quality of materials in the kit.

The best part is they are real GT mufflers, and have no DRONE, many other muffler options for the 4.0 have drone, some worse than others.:nono:

I suppose you are right and if I don't like the sound I could always change it.

Thanks everyone on the hints so far
