what exactly is the nds? i know it stands for neutral drive safety switch, but what function does it serve? Also is it located on the transmission? and lastly are there different nds switches for auto vs. Standard transmissions?? ive recently purchased a 1990 gt, and im trying to fix everything that has pop'd up from checking the computer. I have a standard trans.

O yesterday while i was driving i lost cold air. when i rolled down the window and turned the c switch i could hear a little squeeling noise. Would that be the entire ac compressor, or just the clutch??

ive never heard it called an NDS ive heard it called the PRNDL Switch or the Neutral safety switch, yea they are different on a auto and manual, on a manual you have a clutch pedal safety switch which is near the clutch pedal, and on a auto it should be on the tranny or on the shifter i dunno exactly never had to work on an auto.

As far as the A/C it could be alot of things your description is not great, but it could be your clutch or your compressor, but before you go spending money make sure your compressor is good by turning the clutch portion by hand and if you feel any rough rotation due to bearings or anything i would recommend replacing it

Auto transmissions use a NDS or NSS which is bolted to the transmission or attached to the selector shaft. Manual transmissions use two switches..... NGS or Neutral Gear Switch bolted to the transmission and a CES or Clutch Engine Switch assy. attached to the clutch pedal and set in a parallel type of circuit for the ECM to ID in-neutral condition..

thnx alot. i just ordered the correct switch off line, and i did check the compressor, it is shot. I just found a leak in my radiator too so i went ahead and ordered a new one. this little project is coming right along. if anyone else reads this post, are the gt 40p heads worth purchasing, and what kind of questions should i ask when buying used?

its been a little while but i did get a chance to get under the hood this past weekend and it looks like the compressor clutch went out. it had alot of play in it once i took the belt off and after i pulled the clutch and looked at the bearings there were only a couple of them left so i just ordered a new one. i also picked up the nds switch but havnt had time to put it on yet. This coming weekend ill get both of em put on. thnx for the help.
