need a good cam

Hi everybody im doing an efi to carb swap on my 87 gt and am in need of help finding a good cam. Im going to be running an edelbrock rpm intake, possibly gt40 heads if i can find some for cheap, street demon 625cfm carb, and a k&n velocity stack intake. These are going in combination with the parts i have on the car now are ford racing shorty headers, 2.5" basanni x pipe with 2.5" side exit tails, world class t5 with 4 cyl ratios, and 3.73 gears in the rear. I dont really want to run an alphabet cam. Id like a cam with a nice size lope but good power and have no piston to vale clearance issues. Also i rev my car to 6k. Any info, recommendations, and input would be great. thanks!!:bigthumbsup

Welcome to AFM.

Keep EFI, you will thank yourself later. And wait until you can afford to do something that will actually add a mentionable amount of power.
I thought about staying efi but i guess i just want the simplicity lol. Plus the street demon carb is a dream to tune with. also what did you have in mind as major upgrades?
It depends on what your HP goals are. (?)
Im not going for anything to extreme its my daily summer driver. Im about around 300 now give or take. Oh i forgot to mention i also have port/pol e7's and a cam in there now, its rips really good now im just switching to carb for tuning reasons and the car never wants to idle right and runs pretty rich. but im basically just trying to stay around 300 for now until i can up my funds, im in the process of paying student loans from wyotech lol.

300 to the wheels? Not possible. To the crank, maybe but probably not. What yld pony is saying is that cam upgrade on stock heads won't get you much. Find a good set of used trick flow or afr and you can make some power. I'm betting your car won't idle right because of the cam and you still have speed density. Switching to mass air would help a lot. Do you know what cam you have now?
Stock cam is good to 400HP unless a high winding motor....Save for some heads before you do the cam.:yup:
Plus if you do score some cheap GT40 you will have to upgrade the valve springs for any aftermarket cam.

More $$$$$$

Oh i know to the wheels isnt possible lol. Im not sure what the cam is until i finish taking the motor apart. and its really hard to find parts where i live because there really is no car scene where i live lol and im not a big fan of buying off ebay. So if i have to wait for a nice of heads i will. I can deal with simple heads for now i mean i have been for awhile i really havent been dissapointed.

If i have to do springs i will, i mean its not big of a deal to me but with time i will have a nice set of heads.
