Hey guys, I just purchased a 2006 Silver GT and want to get an exhaust but not sure which one to get. I want great sound and great performance. I'm new to the mustang scene and I want to get involved with my car as much as possible. I love it so far and want to do some great mods to it. Help would be greatly appreciated.

My best advice is to budget for 2 or 3 different exhaust changes. Just as you think you have the perfect setup, you will hear a different one and want that!

Performance it not really impacted by the axle back muffler, you would have to go with long tube headers and no cats as well as a tuner to improve a few HP.

Exhaust is more about sound. There are thousands of video clips on YouTube, and check the exhaust clips thread here.
There are three kinds of mufflers

  • Chambered- deep tone and stock or just louder volume
  • Turbo / Straight through - mid to deep tone, medium to more aggressive volume
  • Muffler delete pipes - Mid tone loud volume
hope this helps

Yep...listen to vids on youtube too. Really I ultimately picked mine because I liked the tips on it and found a really good deal.
I'd look at Borla, they make really good stuff

Adding an off-road x-pipe increase horsepower more than just replacing the mufflers. I added the UPR Products off-road x-pipe to my '06 GT, and my dad handed me down a set of GT500 mufflers, so I added those with the x-pipe.

I like this combination a lot! It's much more aggressive than the factory exhaust sound, but it's not overbearing.

Here is the x-pipe I used:
05-10 Mustang GT 4.6L Off Road X Pipe at UPRproducts.com- Lifetime Warranty!

I installed the UPR/SCT tuner at the same time, so I used it to eliminate the check engine light you get from removing the cats. The x-pipe & tuner added quite a bit of power on my '06.

Here's what it sounds like:

One last thing, all UPR products carry a lifetime guarantee, and AFM members get a 10% discount on them. :bigthumbsup

I'm running pypes system. Catted x-pipe with high flow cats, pypes mid pipe, and pypes muffler delete. Its really loud, but that's what I was looking for. Deep and mean muscle car sound.

www.pypesexhaust.com check out what they have to offer.

PS usually cheaper to order straight off of ebay or from AM

Alright I've been doing some research and finally decided what exhaust to get. I wanted something loud but not TOO loud. It's my daily driver so I don't want it to be too much. I ordered Borla Stinger S-Type catback exhaust system from AmericanMuscle.com The videos I've seen sound great and they have great reviews. Once I recieve them and install them I'll let you guys know. thanks for the advice.

Borlas are a great choice, you'll be happy
sweeeet.

i got an 05 gt. shorty headers connected to 3 feel of pipe left from unbolting the stock exhaust off. welded together. dumped right where the H pipe would be. If you don't run turn downs your whole car will vibrate and cause massive headaches :bigthumbsup. But since I put turn-downs on i have no in car drone. The sound comes more from the middle but the sound is still very loud but talk able.

So...

Cut the Cats
Remove Mid Pipe
Weld if you can, or have a shop do it, run 2-3ft of pipe wherever you want the sound to really come from direction wise.
Add Turn-Downs... Turn key and enjoy :yup:

I will post pics of my setup tomorrow

fairly expensive but I hear they are pretty good. I live by Pypes though, had them on both of my cars so far and most all of my friends have gotten their exhaust through pypes. Best price for the best sound in my opinion
I can't believe no one's mentioned Flowmasters!!!

On my 2005 GT, I went thru pypes, MAC and finally was happy with the American Thunders from Flowmaster. IMO, Pypes and Mac were too buzzy/droney and the flows had a better rumble to them. Also just about the cheapest out there. Borlas and Bassinis are great too but pricey.

Also, I had a Pypes off road xpipe on for about two weeks before I'd had enough of the drone at cruising speed. I wound up having a local shop custom make an X that worked out great and only cost me $125 installed. Never got around to headers but always wanted to

Flows will definitely be going on my 2010 when I get tired of the FRPPs that came with it.

FYI, you;ll have an extremely hard time to get a 4.6 3v to sound like 5.0 or a 2V/4V SN95...muffler placement is all wrong...I tried but could never get that close to the low end rumble.
