My friend is offering to sell his stage 2 FR500 cams for $200 and new comp cam beehive springs for $50 because he needs to get money to register his car. I know there is more into this for cams but is this worth it? Do they make FR500 cams for 2001 Cobras? Can I keep stock heads? Thank you!

you can use the stock heads, you need matching retainers, it's a heck of a deal, you'll have a fair amount of labor and need a retune to consider, that could be around $2000, so is 15hp and sound worth it to you? For me, I'd skip it and save for a supercharger

Im getting retainers with it as well, im picking it up tmrw. I have a few questions tho. He is selling me the 01 Cobra heads as well and one needs a little work I guess, do you think I could get anything for those? Also I was thinking port and polish intake? How much would that be roughly? And would it be worth it with cams? Im thinking headers in future would complement this as well. I currently have o/r pipe, and CAI basically. Hopefully 40-50rwhp gain after dyno tune? And I get them degreed. Thanks :)

ported and polished intake could be $500-1000, remember it has two pieces so you're talking alot of labor...cam guards are part of the head, I think...
Everytime I've run the number for cams it just doesn't work financially...too much labor cost, plus you need a custom tune, oh another $500....
Really get a supercharger and see what that car can do...no cams needed, my car is stupid fast

if the cam retainers are broken then the heads are pretty much junk. They are line bored to fit the heads from the factory. If it is just cracked then its not that big of a deal just get it welded and it should be fine. The cams are cool but i heard com springs like to shatter after a short time so i would look for a different spring. Also the fr500 cams really shine N/A not so much forced induction. If staying N/A i would go for it. And 2manystangs is right about the labor being expensive, unless you are comfortable with working on the car and pulling the heads yourself then sending them off to get a valve job and assembled. If you do it that way then you would be looking at $450, if you pull the motor and have them assemble the head and then degree the cams and do the timing then it will be roughly $750. Its worth it.

yeah, but what about new bolts, gaskets and tune? Yep $1000 more at least..also I know of no one that will do all that head work for $750, usually around $1200+, not to mention few are skilled enough to pull it off

I bought the cams and heads with all parts in them. Just no gaskets I believe. I just need to polish the cams a little bit I BELIEVE and move parts into my stock heads which I might port and polish. Then dyno tune. Does that sound right?

Do you know what I need to look for exactly on the cams to match them? They have what appears to be prices on them?

Have you added up all this? I've lost count of what you will spend...literally thousands? Right? For how much hp? 40? Geez, sell the cams, heads and just get a blower and tune...pick up 150hp and see what the 4.6 can do.

its not worth the headach to pull off a perfect set of heads... why not just slap the cams and call it a day. you already have C heads which are plenty good.
