Okay so I'm going to buy a bullitt 2001 model from this guy for 4500$. Mr here's some cosmetic discrepancies but mainly he said there's a sound in the right bank. Now I think it's a bearing thing, and I'm not sure how expensive that could be down the road. This is a three hour drive back, so if you guys had any tips about seeing if it's a serious issue before driving that far, I'd appreciate it.

You really should try to take somebody that has a good set of ears and possesses a decent knowledge base on cars with you, or as another option you could look up a mechanic or shop in the area in advance and arrange to pay an hour's worth of shop labor to have the car looked over. It could work out to be very cheap insurance for you.

If the car needs a new engine, you can usually find used ones for $1000 or less. Not sure what a shop might charge for the swap, but if you diy it could happen over the course of a weekend.

Of course that's just a worst case scenario that it would need a new engine. You'll obviously need to go see it before you'll know much more.

Alright so with further communication it turns out that this guy actually owns a shop. He said the easiest way he could think of was to replace the "lower end" I'm not exactly sure what that entails, but I'm game to try it on a budget
Yeah, that basically means it needs a new engine. "Bottom end" is probably what he meant, which means the rotating assembly - crankshaft, rods and pistons. The noise you mentioned is probably a rod knock.

It would be easiest to find a gently used 4.6 from a 2001+ CrownVic or Towncar and just swap the whole thing. The Bullitt you're looking at has an intake manifold that is specific to that car, so just move it, along with the flywheel, exhaust manifolds and front accessories like p/s pump etc over to the new engine.
