I have a Ford 9" rear that measures 59 3/8" flange to flange. I think it came out of a 68 Mustang. I believe the spring perches are correct but the width at the flanges is a little wider than the 65 had.

Has anyone tried this set up or know someone that has? I'm woried that I may have a problem with clearing the quarters with wider than stock tires. What rims were used?

I'm planning to use 17" wheels too if that affects anything.

If I'mnot mistaken, that rear end is 1.5 - 2 inches wider than the 65. Check with the rim manufacturers for offsets, you may be able to compensate in that manner. Otherwise, you will need to narrow it a bit.

Here's some 9" info.
Ford 9-Inch Rear axle lengths and information

Looks like it's 2" longer than the '65-'66, that's an inch wider on each side. If you're using 17" wheels they probably have a deeper backspace than classic 15" wheels. I would measure your wheel backspace and compare it to your stock rims, you should have at least 1" deeper with the 17" I would guess. It will only become a problem if you try to put rims with stock or near stock bs.
