The previous owner of my 68 mustang says it has a 289 high output engine in it but i cant find a single thing online about it. he said it came out of an 83 mustang. if someone could point me in the right path that would make my week!!:grin:

I am not familiar with the later engines but on any engine I have owned the location indicated in the above picture will only give you a stamped date code for when the engine was assembled. Its stamped in the block metal so if the block has been machined on that side since it left the factory, for whatever reason(s), that number may no longer still be there or may not be readable. Each major casting has its own numbers but the one on the block is usually above, and hidden by, the starter and its cast, not stamped. The intake manifold has its own cast numbers as do the heads, etc. Cast numbers will tell you what part it is and when the foundry made the part, stamped numbers tell when some further work was done on those raw parts.
