I have a 2011 3.7. Is it worth it to buy a new driveshaft? I've read that they are ridiculously unreliable. Thanks.

If you plan on going over 130 and racing, yes. Other than that, not really necessary.

I've seen the stock shafts explode on dynos.
Explain how, an aluminum aftermarket shaft is unreliable compared to the stock?

Hard question to answer without knowing your full intentions with the car. If you plan on racing it in any capacity then it's something I would definitely consider. If you plan on driving it "normally" <--- too funny, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Get a safety loop for piece of mind until you really make any decisions.

If you do decide to get a new one, don't get the ones from American Muscle or comparable places that are like 700 bucks. Get one from this guy, Drive Shafts and Yokes - Racing Parts and Products I haven't gotten one for my v6 as i don't plan on modifying it performance wise just yet, but the one he made me for my 65 fastback was awesome. Great quality and half the price

OP the stock shafts are not "rediculously unreliable" in spite of some hype, a bit more unreliable than we'd like maybe. But unless you plan on racing, or going 120mph +, $650 or more is a lot of money for a little more responsiveness, and .1 seconds faster.

You'll get a little of that back every time you de-cel thru the 2700 rpm range. Much smoother than stock.
You'll get a little of that back every time you leave a stop, with less of your engine's energy being used up. Accelleration is a little better, in theory, a little better fuel economy.
You'll always have piece of mind that drive shaft isn't going to go pop when you're 500 miles from home.
The AE shaft has a sticker of a cute chick sitting on a driveshaft. The Ford shaft has a sticker on it that says "Scrap if dropped".
If you ever sell your car, just take the AE shaft off and sell it separatly. Then in the end, was it really that expensive after all?

If the OP was referring to stock driveshafts, they are not ridiculously unreliable, despite a small handful of videos of DS's flying apart on dyno's.
If you're going to drive in a typically spirited manner, then you have nothing to fear from stock. If you're going to beat on it, then you're definitely in a gray area. This being the case, you're best off going with aluminum.

I know it's funny this d's issue is almost like the Toyota issue years ago, where that one driver claimed he couldn't stop..ruined toyotas reputation for a year...turns out the dude never used the breaks...
I beat my car a few times a week, cruise at 80mph, auto cross it, drag race it and have yet to have an issue and I have 3.73 gears

The driveshaft shops DS's are considered to be the best out right now for our cars..structurally and quality wise. Can't wait till they start shipping!

·Money is always the main object for me. If it wasn't though the DSS carbonfiber shaft is amazing, look at WRXified's thread on his install. But I'll spend half that much on the new Shaftmasters or buy AM's.
No one's debating this.
There's hard eveidence that nearly everything on this car can possibly fail.
The point is that he does not have to buy an aluminum DS. The stock DS is perfectly fine, as long as it's treated the way it was designed to be treated.
However, if he decides to go with aluminum, then the Drive Shaft Shop (DSS) is the way to go.
Given the available cash I'd swap mine out in a heartbeat. I'd also swap out my flywheel and clutch. Would I like to? Sure! Who wouldn't? Do I feel I have to? No. Ford designed a fine machine. The problems of a few do not dictate the reliability of my car. It's proven itself worthy many times over.
Nothing to fear from stock.
But if you have the cash, do it. Nothing wrong with getting up to 8 more HP to the rear wheels.
How about $620 shipped. Seriously, it was on the car for 4 days before I traded it in. I have the original box as well. I have lots of other parts for sale as well. PM me for more info so we don't hijack this thread. Oh and BTW, the DS makes the car feel lighter and much smoother. I just wish it would fit my GT...
