Hi everyone I am a 21 year old American male but I don't know much about cars. I'm not sure I am in love with any car but my favorite is definitely the Mustang. Just wish it got more MPG. I want to get an orange Mustang with black racing stripes. My question is:

What is the difference between a regular 2011 Mustang verses the GT, Shelby GT, and boss? Thanks for your help.

Ford doesn't offer orange except Competition Orange on the BOSS 302.

As far as the differences in all the various Mustangs, it would take pages and pages to answer that. Best bet is just to read through this forum and some of the others around the net and maybe look at 2012 Ford Mustang Sports Car | See the All-New Mustang | Ford.com for more info.

Start here: 2012 Ford Mustang | Mustang Models | Ford.com...And keep educating yourself before you buy a Mustang. You have nearly 50 years of history to learn.

Money money money money, money!! Seriously though. Difference is power and trackability. And the name of course. A Shelby is a collectible. The Boss name also deserves respect and carries a nostalgia factor and thus also could be a collector's car. Shelby GT500 is a supercharged 5.4L V8. I don't know the hp number exactly. 550ish maybe. Boss is a modified 5.0 from regular GT that does 440ish. It also has upgraded suspension. It's not a daily driver. More of a track car. The "regular" mustang you speak of would be the 3.7 liter V6 305 hp. GT is a V8 412 hp. Difference there would be if course price, as well as power, sound, and gas mileage. Physically, or rather aesthetically, the v6 and gt are identical minus a different grill and some badging.

thanks. I just googled competition orange boss mustang and its freaking awesome. I'm checking out the website to look at differences between the models.
Welcome to AFM !
I want a car I would drive everyday. I suppose if I didnt get a Boss I could take the car to a body shop and get the paint job. I am not planing to buy a mustang for a while. I'm still in college, just interested in the car. Never to early to learn.
First off throw mileage out the window... go get a rice burner with hardly enough power to move itself, if mileage is the key...
not saying the mustang is bad... I average 17 mixed driving...
If you are on a budget and who isn't because we are all busy spreading the wealth, maybe a V6 would work... 305 plus HP not bad for 30 on the highway...
Being as young as you are I would suggest an automatic over a standard...
I started writing this long e-mail and found this link, read this...

Just do the world two favors, what ever you get... take the time and read the owners manual...
And don't pay over sticker for a Boss... you can buy the GT 500 as well as the Mustang V6, base and GT... at or below invoice...

I may be young but I know to never to pay over or at sticker. I'm checking out that link now. I will try and go auto because I don't know how to drive stick. Although most are only offered in stick so I'll have to learn. Also I will read the manual and be responsible.
Oh and the ONE mod you must get for yer Future Mustang: a smoking HOT babe for the passenger seat!!!:gringreen

You must provide visual proof that you have this exclusive mod also.
If you want MPG you'd probably be wanting to look at the V6.

The Performance Pack is really a have your cake and eat it too kinda car with lots of ponies under the hood, dual exhausts, bigger wheels than my car has, and amazing MPG for a car with this much motivation.

Whatever you get, have fun deciding. :bigthumbsup

The various V8 versions are what real men drive. The more horsepower, the manlier they are. The V6's are secretary cars.

I have had a 2005 Gt, 2011 5.0 Gt, and a 2012 v6 w/ performance package. Minus the lack of the deep muscle sound, I would say that the v6 is my favorite. If you do go the v6 route, make sure you get a 2011 or newer because that is when Ford upper the horsepower to 305. If money and mpg's are not an issue I would go with the Gt or Gt500. Nothing beats the feeling of pushing on the accelerator and hearing that deep muscle car sound of the v8(Gt/Gt500).

When deciding on the Transmission to get, look at how you are going to be using the car and what kind of terrain you live in. I know that may sound silly but if you are going to be daily driving this car in a hilly area, a standard transmission wouldn't be the best idea especially if you don't know how to drive standard yet. You will no doubt prematurely wear out the clutch.

I bought a standard transmission because I wanted it, I wouldn't accept an auto. That being said, I don't drive my car everyday, it's more of a nice day cruiser. There's nothing funner than booting onto the freeway and jamming through the gears in stick car though.

Before you buy, MAKE SURE to do A LOT of research about what you want and don't settle for something you don't want. A car is a big purchase for someone young (like me) so you want to make the right decision and be happy with what you've got.

:sadcry: Wrecked credit from a divorce will ensure you DO pay at least sticker, if not more. :weeps

Good thing you haven't been around long enough to hang yourself! You got bargaining power! :winks

I think you'd be happiest with the GT. I own a V6 but I REALLY need the MPG's, as I spend an awful lot of time on the open road. It has plenty of kick for sure! But the GT is raw affordable power and the MPG's are pretty decent as long as you don't go too deep in the rear gears. I've heard tales of folks managing 28 MPG @ 65 MPH on 3.31's with the GT's. I'm not sure I believe it, but I have seen it posted. That's V6 MPG territory with over 100 more HP and at least 80 more TQ. :hihi:

I have hit 28-29 MPG doing only highway at 65mph driving many times in my 2011 with 3.73s and a 6MT. That of course is not typical. I am usually in the 24-27 range depending on how much fun I am having during my commute (50 miles one way, all highway). Doing highway, around town, and back county roads, not paying much attention to the MPGs and having some fun I usually end up around 21-24 for a tank. I have never been anywhere near the 17 MPG it was rated for in city. For over 400HP that is good enough for me! :bigthumbsup

Strictly highway MPG:
31 - '11+ V6 Auto gets the best, 2 MPG beter than the manual
27 - '11+ V8

The '11+ V8's get great gas mileage for the amount of power they throw at the wheel. However, if MPG is going to be a big factor for you, get the V6. Your in town/combined driving is where the V6 shines - usually about 26 MPG.

Since the V6 costs about $6k less, the V6 is more of a modder's choice. The beautiful thing about mustangs are the OEM & aftermarket parts availability. If you wanted, you could slap on a supercharger to the V6 and be putting out more bwh, lighter car and better MPG than the V8.

The V6 Performance Package is definitely something to take a look at if you decide to go the V6 route. It literally transforms the car into a better handling car than any stock GT option. Ford also slaps on the most beautiful wheels they have ever made with that option. I get more compliments about my wheels than anything, lol.

Bottom line is money, without question, as stated earlier. What car fits your budget enough to live your life comfortably. Pick your car based on that.
