New Headlight Hardware installation? Late Model Resto

739 Views 5 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Saleen302
So i just received my new headlights from late model restoration (economy style.) I was observing them and i noticed two things. One is that for both (driver/passenger side) lights, the outer/inner lights. Not the main center headlight, but the other two. They have a small hole at the bottom of them. Now i am going to be resealing these lights with RTV Silicon to help with the moisture, but should i cover these holes as well? I figure they're there for a reason, maybe to allow moisture to come out of the light? im not sure. Does anyone know what i am talking about?

Another thing i noticed was that the hardware for the center headlight was not included/put on the head light when i received it (both passenger/drive). The other outer lights did, but these did not. Im referring to the actual studs where the bolts go on and hold the center headlight into place? Do i use my old ones? If so, what do i use to keep them in place. What are holding them in place now? How do i get them off? The new headlights i received do not appear to be threaded. So im a bit confused as to what to do at this point. Help anyone? ? ?

use a vise grip and screw out ur old studs, and drill a small hole in location of new mounts, probably only way, its pretty stupid they didnt provide them already on. also i would silicone those little holes in those side lights, i did to mine because after a few car washes water was getting inside of them.

cool. thank you for the advice. and yes i agree that its really lame they didn't include them. i mean they did for the rest? i called the company and left them a message and am waiting for a call back. On another note, if they say they do not include the studs/bolts, how do they go in the back of the headline? do i use like some sort of strong glue to hold them in? Jb weld? i have no clue... i've yet to take apart my old head lights so im not sure what to expect. Which is why im asking so many questions.

You will need to take your backing plates off of your old lights and transfer them to your new lights. When the manufacture makes these kits they install the backing plates to the side markers, and turn signals.

Take a look at this video and it shows you how to transfer everything over. Its a pretty simple install.

ohh ok i thought he meant that the provided backing plates didnt have the studs in it duh.. well in that case then yea do as he says above, transfer over your original mounting plate, easy as pie.
