So, I am from Iowa, the land of rusted out Mustangs.

I currently own a 1967 Mustang convertible. Her name is Daisy.

I want to round out my garage with an SN95 bodied SVT Cobra, and am specifically looking in the DFW and Phoenix area.

I have friends/family in both cities, and my plan is to fly down to visit them, purchase the car there and drive back. During the time I'm there, I would change oil, replace rubber bits as needed and otherwise prep the car for the trip.

What I am looking for is advice on what to look for. What I hope to find is a car that is mechanically sound, with room for cosmetic improvement, interior and exterior for about $5000.

Thoughts?

Welcome to the site! I know around me at that price you're looking at a decent GT, for a cobra you're going to have to up the amount by about 3 to 4 thousand. With that said there are always deals to be found, best of luck and keep us posted. By the way beautiful 67.

The prices are the same in Iowa. But for some reason, the DFW area has some less expensive cars. Many are damaged, have rebuilt titles, or have been injudiciously modified.

None of that really scares me, as long as the body rot hasn't started, yet. I'm thinking if I am patient and clever, I might be able to get a '96 - '98 car for that money.

And thanks for the compliment. I bought Daisy when I was 13, and have managed to keep her since.
