New plugs and coil packs

We're slow at work today so I'm playing around on the computer killing time and keep thinking of questions. :D I recently read a magazine article where Granatelli coil packs picked up 27 whp on an 1100 mile stock car! Sounds like bull but could it be true? Also, would my 35,000 mile car benefit from plugs, coil packs, etc.?

New plugs maybe. I'd steer clear of aftermarket coils.

Why do you say that Stl? Could you shed your knowledge?

I picked up a set of MSD Coil on Plugs from Brenspeed.... I haven't installed them yet though... Of course when I come home, theres a pile of boxes waiting for me. :gringreen

They are prone to failure. There is also a thought by some that 60,000 volts produces too much RF interference between the coils, which contributes to them failing. I had a set of accel coils. I had multiple failures within 2 years. I'm now back on the stockers.
I personally don't think the quality is there and the stockers can handle alot of power. I bought granatelli's boots and 2 crapped out within a week.
What magazine? This months 5.0 magazine had a bolt on and nitrous install on a S197. The coils when added at NA only picked up 3-5hp. i think they should of added the nitrous first then showed how much power the COPs added. I almost bough some COPs but was talked outta them by this forum and others.
I almost bought Weapon X's, but looking at STL's posts about aftermarket coils changed my mind. I am still curious, but Mark has been the test mule for almost any product you can imagine on his S197, if he says no go, then its Biblical for me.:bigthumbsup

I also looked into those coils but read a few stories and that was enough for me to back away.

+1 Agreed!!!!!!
I'm still using stock coils. I really just don't think aftermartket coils have any appreciable benefits.

They also seem to fail quite often.

12. Always checketh the AFM classifieds for numerous used mod equipment available from stlwagon at reasonable prices.
It was in Modified Mustangs and Fords. I posted about it here a month ago when the article came out, and there was only one supercharged forum member who liked aftermarket coil packs because it helped prevent spark blowout.

I have thought about it now that I have a supercharger, and since I only drive the car about 1000 miles a year, I don't worry about failure so much.. Too many other things to buy right now though.
